I often see runners on a daily basis for sports massage, whether they are training for a marathon or working on a couch-to-5k. And they regularly tell me how sports massage helps them with their recovery.
Sports massage helps clear metabolic wastes and can reduce pain and inflammation, which is associated with muscle fatigue. As you grow stronger from running, recovery is an important part of the process.
When should runners get sports massage?
π During training: every 3-4 weeks
π Pre-race: 5-10 days before the race
π Post-race: 3-4 days after the race
And we donβt forget the importance of proper stretching and other modalities to help with recovery
