Simple food for the win!

Winter especially is a great time to eat even more seafood.

These are cold pickled anchovies on some rice cooked in bone broth with butter and garlic. If you cool your rice and then reheat it improves or 🙌by changing the starch and making it into a prebiotic of sorts.

Also means you can do cook once eat twice which is always handy ❤️.

What should you eat???

I think what you should eat is individual, seasonal and cycle dependent!

This lunch is
✨localish (carrots, beetroot, cheese, and the fish are probably not Irish but would be available here at this time of year)
✨seasonalish (other than the oranges)
✨contains protein fat and carbs
✨more carbs in the summer or in your luteal phase
✨micronutrients (colours!)
✨fish : DHA especially good in the winter
✨vinegar can help with digestion, blood glucose regulation
✨fibre can help with oestrogen detoxification and gut health in general

Does every meal need to be perfect? No
Does every meal need to be beautiful? No
Does it matter how and with whom you eat? Yes 👍

Hi 👋🏽, I’m Sara, mom of three boys, formerly working as a medical doctor, Irelands first fully qualified functional medicine doctor with IFM, neglected veg patch owner and sun and ocean lover 🌞.

I’m sharing some things about me below so you can get to know me a little more.

🌿I spent my twenties and some of my 30s studying, working and travelling 🧳 to some of the worlds most amazing surfing locations including Madagascar, Mozambique, Java, Maldives, Sri Lanka, California, Brazil and more.

🌿these days I still get in for a surf whenever I can but more often it is a solo sea 🌊 dip, often with kids playing on the beach while I go.

🌿our daughter Zoey was born in 2018 and died a few days after birth which has had a transformative impact on how I view the world, meaning-making and what health and motherhood is for me 🌸

🌿I’m happiest and healthiest when barefoot, in the sun, on a remote beach with local fresh food and great company

🌿but mostly hanging around our cool town of ballinspittle 😀with a new baby and kiddos in tow, a messy car, wet togs in the boot and a bag full of snacks 🥰

🌿I did an internship with a rural GP in a small town in west cork as a student and wanted that to be my life…and since then found functional medicine and a different way of viewing healing and sharing my understanding of the human body.

🌿most of what I share is based on my own experiences in searching for true wellbeing alongside my professional experience of working in hospitals in a number of countries and my post graduate training.

🌿I believe that our bodies are amazing, always healing and working in our favour and that healing comes when we can remember to love and listen to them again

🌿I’m guided by theories on epigenetics, ancestral wisdom, quantum biology, metabolic health, and more and am lucky to have had some fantastic teachers. I have always been a big reader and LOVE learning and asking why and don’t intend to stop.

🌿sharing on IG doesn’t come super naturally for me but the process of showing up here definitely has pushed me in a good way 💕

Liver…I mentioned it in my recent stories as a possible addition to smoothies 💡. Why??? What the???

It is so full of really important vitamins and minerals…in their most bio available form.

You may not love the flavour but I urge you to try in as many ways as possible to include it in your diet.

One recent member of RYH regained her period after a number of years and she puts it down to including regular liver after having been vegetarian for a number of years.
