Came across these enchanting beauties in our local woods, and memories were instantly evoked of captivating childhood fairytales and illustrations.

As the Celtic Wheel of the Year turns to Samhain, a time of magic and when the veil between this world and the otherworld is at its thinnest, when the Sídhe roam the earth, it’s not hard to imagine toadstools, as was once believed, as portals to the spirit realm.

The fungus is viewed as a bridge between the spiritual realm and the material world, and is often associated with spiritual growth, enlightenment, and rebirth. Its lifecycle – emerging from darkness and decay – represents the cyclical nature of life, death and transformation.

At Samhain nature quietens and so should we. On a woodland path the trees whisper messages of wisdom: just as they shed their summer coat of leaves now, it is also a good time for us to reflect on what we would like to let go, what no longer serves us.

At our Samhain Retreat on Thursday evening (6-9 pm) 23rd October, we'll be pausing to quieten mind and body and delving deeper into this magical, mystical time of possibilities.
