❌ I often get asked things like 'Is Craniosacral Therapy the same as Reiki?' or other energy work.

βœ… Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands on therapy. It's origins are in Osteopathy, another therapy that follows the principles of the body's own self healing ability.

πŸ‘‰ By connecting with areas of restriction and allowing gentle release, it allows the body to heal, in its own way and time.

When Collette visited me for help with her leg pain, by using the Craniosacral approach of working with the whole body and also in a more local way, Collette's body released bringing relief πŸ’«

Every body holds tension differently β€” and every release is unique. 🌸

πŸ‘‰ What’s one area your body always holds stress?

The sphenoid bone (in yellow), seen from above and below, is a keystone bone in our bodies, and is very important in Craniosacral Therapy ✨

πŸ‘‰ Sometimes known as the butterfly bone, due to its shape, it forms part of the bottom of our skull, and connects the bones of the face with the cranium.

A part of the sphenoid called the sella turcica, is where the pituitary gland is situated. Known as the master gland, the pituitary is one of the most important in the endocrine system, which produces the hormones in our bodies, controlling everything from breathing, heart rate, digestion, and even how we feel! 🌿

πŸ‘‰As it is directly connected to the Dura, the membrane covering the brain and spine, and by the connective fascial tissue to the rest of the body, releasing restrictions in the sphenoid can have profound effects throughout.

πŸ’‘ The vagus nerve, the 10th cranial nerve is the longest nerve in the body. It extends from the brainstem down to the abdomen, connecting the brain to various organs like the heart, lungs and intestines!

πŸ‘‰ It's a key part of the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system and helps regulate involuntary functions such as heart rate, digestion and breathing.

There are lots of ways to take care of our vagus nerve; humming and singing, cold water showers or a dip in the sea, and... Craniosacral Therapy!πŸŽ‰

Craniosacral therapy gently supports your vagal tone, helping your body return to ease. 🌿

🌿 We also possess an inner wisdom. A part of us that holds the knowledge of what is needed to heal.

We spend so much of our lives looking outward rather than within, we cannot connect with this part of ourselves 😞

Craniosacral therapy works with that intelligence, helping to connect our conscious selves with our deeper inner knowing.✨

The sacrum, seen here in yellow, is amazing! 🀩

πŸ’ͺLocated at the base of the spine, this triangle shaped bone forms the back of the pelvis, and it bears the full weight of the spine from directly above it

It's name comes from the Latin 'Os Sacrum' which means 'Sacred Bone' , and it's key in enabling us to stand upright and move 🚢

It also serves as a nerve pathway so any restrictions around are sacrum can cause pain and dysfunction ☹️

✨ Craniosacral Therapy owes it's name in part to the sacrum- Cranio from Cranium or Skull, and Sacral from... The Sacrum!

It's such an integral part of the therapy and how it works 🌿

Sometimes all we need to heal is support πŸ•ŠοΈ

✨The beauty of Craniosacral Therapy is that by simply releasing whatever is blocking our bodies from healing, our own inner wisdom does the rest. All it needs is a little bit of help sometimes.

Isn't that amazing!? 🌿

The healing process that a Craniosacral treatment starts doesn't stop as soon as you finish the session 🌿

✨ While the gentle touch may not feel like much at the time, as it has an impact on the nervous system and body as a whole, we can feel the effects for a few days as it integrates.

3 to 5 sessions within 1 to 2 weeks apart is recommended to get maximum benefit from the work. Beyond that, people have sessions whenever they feel the need πŸ’«

That's the beauty of Craniosacral Therapy, it's there when you need it! ☺️
