You’ve likely heard that today is Blue Monday, supposedly the most depressing day of the year. At Alhomecare, we don’t buy into those forecasts! Instead of giving in to the gloom, we invite you to join the Irish initiative, Brew Monday! 🫖

Brew Monday was started by the organization Samaritans 🍀 The idea is to combat loneliness by encouraging everyone to connect over a cup of tea (or coffee) and a chat. That’s why today, we encourage you to:
🫖 brew your favorite tea or coffee
🫖 take a quiet moment – ideally in the company of your client or a loved one
🫖 have a pleasant chat about something nice
A warm mug in your hands and a good conversation are the best ways to beat the winter weather! 💙

Don’t let the Blue Monday mood get to you. Remember, a shared moment over tea can work wonders and brighten even the grayest day.

January brings dark evenings, but not in Ireland! 🍀 A few days ago, this year’s edition of Ireland Lights Up kicked off – the perfect opportunity for safe outdoor activity, especially for seniors.

Why join in? 📍 Over 1,000 clubs across Ireland are turning on their floodlights, providing well-lit and flat walking tracks for the community. 🛡️ Safety first: The tracks are traffic-free and perfectly visible, meaning no risk of tripping in the dark. 🏠 Fresh air and movement is the best therapy for the winter blues!

The initiative runs from January 7th to February 11th across all 32 counties!

Even though we associate it with a joyful New Year’s welcome, "Auld Lang Syne" is actually an anthem about... memory and loyalty. For many caregivers coming to Ireland from different parts of Europe, it might be surprising why this particular song stirs up such deep emotions here.

Here are 3 interesting facts you should know before New Year’s Eve:
👉 What does it actually mean?
The name comes from the Scots language (closely linked to Irish history) and literally means "old long since" or "for old times' sake." It poses a question to all of us: Should old acquaintances be forgotten and never brought to mind?

👉 Why does Ireland love it so much?
Although the lyrics were written by the Scotsman Robert Burns, the tradition of singing it at the end of gatherings and on New Year’s Eve has taken deep root in Ireland. It is similar in spirit to "The Parting Glass" – a traditional farewell toast. It’s that special moment where everyone holds hands to form a circle – a symbol of unity that is so vital in Irish communities.

We women have this extraordinary power: we take care of the home, the children, the grandchildren, our seniors, and our elderly parents. We always remember our husband's favorite salad and making sure medications are taken on time. But in all this holiday rush, do we remember the most important person – ourselves?✨

Christmas Eve is just one week away 🌟 We know that for those of you staying on the Emerald Isle, this is a special time of reflection. You are scrolling through photos of loved ones back home, planning video calls, and surely feeling a bit of longing in your hearts. That is completely natural. ❤️🌟

Today, we simply want to thank you for your decision to stay. We know this isn’t just an "ordinary job". It is a sacrifice of your own family time to provide a sense of safety to another person. Thanks to you, Irish homes will be filled with warmth and care this Christmas ❤️
