Active Retirement Ireland (ARI) is a voluntary organisation for older people with a national membership of over 24,500 people and over 550 local associations. Members range in age from 50 -100+ years and cover a wide range of backgrounds. They are a great resource to get information on services available to retired people as well as being a place to meet like minded people for social and community events. Here's a good guide to the 3 main local authority grants that are available to people living in County Cork looking to get bathroom adaptations, stair lifts, mobility ramps, home adaptation extensions or even to make improvements to your home! Age action are a great resource for older persons all over Ireland. Below is a link to the southern division. They operate a 'Care and Repair' service carry to out minor repairs for older and vulnerable people free of charge, to give them access to reliable tradesmen for larger jobs and to provide a befriending service. Sometimes a house extension is required to create the best mobility solution for a client in their home. That was the case with this project that we completed recently in Cork. The client applied for a local authority grant to help with their mobility issues. This was granted with recommendations from an occupational therapist for a house extension to include a new bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom in the picture features a vinyl wet room floor which is both stylish and easy to maintain.

Here's a job near completion that we did recently for a client in Cork City. In this case the client had dangerously sloped steps going into the house that his family were worried about. Normally in this situation we would suggest a ramp but the client wanted to retain the steps so we rebuilt the steps to be flatter and bigger and added safety rails to assist going in and out of the house.
