Today we recognise the 𝟐𝟎𝟗 women who work and study across APC Microbiome Ireland.

Women make up 𝟔𝟓% of our community. They lead projects, train the next generation of scientists and shape how we study the microbiome.

At our 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐚𝐢𝐧: 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 event we asked one question:

What needs to change to improve women’s health research?

That question framed our International Women’s Day event at APC, Give to Gain: Make it Matter.

Guided by our MC , speakers and participants explored research, leadership and advocacy in women’s health.

The event brought together researchers, students and partners for:

• Research talks
• Poster presentations
• A Q&A discussion on challenges in women’s healthcare & research
• Networking across disciplines

Many speakers shared clear insights on mentorship, visibility and the need to prioritise women’s health across research agendas.

Which issue in women’s health do you think research should prioritise next?

As we welcome 2026, we would like to wish our stakeholders a very happy New Year. Thank you for your continued support of APC Microbiome Ireland. This year marks an exciting new chapter for the APC following the completion of our Research Ireland Centre grant phase. We will continue to thrive as a globally-renowned research centre, with a unique critical mass of inter-disiplinary researchers producing high-quality research outputs. Over many years we have developed a diverse funding portfolio, strong industry and philanthropic partnerships, and impactful international collaborations. We are ambitious for the next phase of APC and keen to build on our success and impact over the last 22 years.

We’re really excited by the opportunities in the Horizon Europe 2026–2027 work programmes in Health and Food, which draw significantly on microbiome science and innovation. We are energised by the opportunities ahead and are very much open for business - keen to forge new partnerships and collaborate on ground-breaking research that delivers real impact for people’s health and wellbeing.

We look forward to continued engagement and shared success with our stakeholders in the year ahead!

A great start to Science Week Ireland yesterday in Cork City's Marina Market. APC reserchers are looking forward to our big Science Week event there all day next Saturday 15th November.
