Week 26: Dr Ann Payne
Dr Ann Payne is a Consultant Psychiatrist in Cork.
She has a special interest in the interface of Mental Health and Frontline EMS, Emergency Department personnel & Paramedics and is involved in active research and teaching in these areas. She undertakes regular sessions in the practice of Emergency Medicine at Cork University Hospital.
Dr Payne was awarded a Fellowship Sports & Exercise Medicine (FFSEM) 2018 from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) & Royal College of Physicians (RCPI). She was the recipient of the Presidents Award for Outstanding Service from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in October 2018.
She is the Director of the PRiME course which provides training in Emergency Medicine for Psychiatrists since 2015.
She is also a qualified ATLS instructor and holds a Masters Degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
She was the Clinical Lead of the first Home Based Crisis Team in Cork city.
She has published research in the management of medical comorbidity in Psychiatry, Intellectual Disability, Forensic Psychiatry and Risk Assessment.
She is a Senior Clinical Lecturer, UCC and a tutor for Medical Students, the National Intern Rotation, and Psychiatry Trainees.
She is a Balint group leader in Reflective Practice in UCC Deanery and the College of Psychiatrists in Ireland.
She has completed courses in Wilderness Emergency Medicine, Counter Narcotics & Terrorism Operational Medical Support and Wilderness Medicine (WEMS) for Medical Directors.
She also participated in the RESUSCITATE Surgical procedures course/cadaver workshop in 2018.
She is an Editorial Board member of JEMS, the Journal of Emergency Medical Services.
She is an Associate member of Irish Association Emergency Physicians (IAEM) and an International member of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
Her current project innovation is with Advanced Recovery Kanturk (ARK), a community-based mental health initiative.
She competed in her first Half-Ironman in May 2018 and is a member of the Cork Triathlon Club.
