Since studying Pre-Natal Yoga in 2019, and becoming facilitator of the Wise Womben Way in 2020 I’ve been building my collection of references to support my expansion as a facilitator🧘🏼‍♀️
I’ve always been an avid reader, so books have been my go-to for information. Ironically what I’ve learned from all of this is to actually PAUSE on taking in this sort of information for a while
Yes I am completely fascinated by birth stories, the way of the wise womban, the magic of female physiology. However the same message in coming through in many beautiful ways
Trust yourself, trust your body, trust your physiology, trust your inner knowing, trust your intuition, trust your sisters
There has been, and continues to be an attempt to erode this trust between women and their bodies, between women themselves, because we are so powerful.
Through this journey I have confronted (and continue to confront) the internalised misogyny that has taught to me, and reinforced in me over and over again in every aspect of our society, and perpetuated by me, both consciously and unconsciously, as an attempt to keep me separated from my sisters, disconnected from my wild and magical body, and dependent on external sources of authority for approval
Through reading, yes, but mostly by sharing vulnerably; eyes stinging, throat burning, heart pounding. By showing up exactly as I am. By hearing the stories of other women through books, podcasts, calls and in ceremony, by gazing deeply into the eyes of another woman, and knowing am that I am her and she is me, it slowly dawned on my that my experience was being mirrored back to me by every woman who was able to find the courage to tell the truth of her experience, despite all of the conditioning and it’s incessant reinforcement
By moving out of my head (spending most of the time reading) and into my body (spending more time in practice) I’ve been fine-tuning my senses, both seen and unseen, and let’s just say that my bu****it detector has been upgraded 👍

After some resistance, I sat with myself today, and asked my body what she needs
She asked me to put my phone down until February 1st, and to spend the next month in quiet contemplation about how to proceed with the offering that has been brewing inside for years, while simultaneously feeling exasperatingly elusive
Have you ever woken up from an extremely vivid dream, what felt so real, only to forget the details within an hour? That sort of feeling...
I feel honoured to have a practice that I can go into, that gives me the confidence to delve within and to retrieve what I know is the best way I can best be of service to the world, at this pivotal time

💜Prana (can be pronounced ‘pran’) is life force energy, vital force, the shiver in your timbers, the pep in your step. Prana is the basis of LIFE. It is something that we many not tangibly SEE but we KNOW that it is real as a result of our LIVED EXPERIENCE. It looks like breath-work, and works on many levels, seen and unseen
💜Pranayama (can be pronounced as ‘pranayam’) is the practice of expanding this life force energy, with evenness and awareness, and then channeling it through our ‘nadis’ or energy channels of our subtle body so that we can increase our capacity to hold this energy
💜Pranayama is the bridge between asana (yoga postures) and meditation as it supports us in working with (not against!) the mind directly
💜 Pranayama regulates breath, body chemistry and emotions; the creates the conditions for meditation to happen. If you find meditation challenging, a pranayama practice can help greatly!
💜 And if you’re thinking WTF is this absolute SPACE CADET on about, know that you already know how to practice pranayama! Your body knows how to regulate itself by using the breath. You’ve most likely already noticed this. What happens to the breath when....

Nourishment ❤️
There were years in my life that I spent skipping breakfast, having ‘no appetite’ in the morning. It still holds true that I’m rarely hungry immediately after rising🙏🏻
After morning practice of meditation, asana (yoga postures) and pranayama (breath expansion), my body is ready to eat 🥳
Looking back, I realised that I rolled out of bed and started my day within an hour, sometimes less! I was bringing my nervous system into the ‘fight or flight’ very quickly, instead of allowing ‘rest and digest’ a while longer for my appetite to come up 🙏
After making some changes to how I plan my day, I can now enjoy a delicious and nutritious breakfast that fuels my adventures

The cyclical nature of things is constantly being brought into my awareness 🙏
The cycle that is most acutely in our awareness is the sunrise-sunset cycle, our daily cycle. Our relationship to the light of the sun impacts our physiology so what we know when it is time to sleep, and we know when it is time to wake up. The circadian rhythm of serotonin and cortisol to wake us up, and melatonin to bring us to sleep. This is the most basic cycle that we are influenced by, yet many of us, myself included up to quite recently do now flow with this cycle, to the detriment of our health on many levels - we all can relate to how a bad nights sleep can negatively impact our day, so imagine the cumulative affect of suboptimal sleep over even a short time 🙏
Sleeping and dreams have always been a source of fascination for me. I have memories of being little, and spending hours jumping off my bed because in my dream the night before I could fly. I dreamed of shiny paper and was completely upset the next morning to find it wasn’t there 😂
The quality of our sleep can tell us a lot about our health. I know from personal experience that emotional upheaval creates a unrelenting restlessness in me that steals my dreams away. So reflecting on my sleep is a method I use to check in with myself, to see how I’m doing 🙏
Sleep is mysterious and is only beginning to be explained by modern science. On the most basic level, I feel it is a processing of the day just experienced. A defragmentation of all of the sights, sounds, tastes, smells, sensations, thoughts, feelings and emotions experienced. Unfortunately though, how we live our lives has been impacting on our sleep cycles since the invention of artificial light around the time of the Industrial Revolution
The cycle of sleeping and waking is a fundamental rhythm that feeds into all of the rhythms and cycles of the body, the cycles of the endocrine system, our hormones and blood sugar levels. Sleep resets the body for each new day which is a fresh new start to be in coherence, to regulate and attune our physiological rhythms with those of the natural cycles

I’m battening down the hatches here at Wild Atlantic Way Yoga ahead of Storm Ellen, and warming up the yoga space ahead of the weekend 🙏
My biggest contribution right now is to invite you in, to welcome you to The Farmhouse, to prepare food for you, and to facilitate practices for you to help you come home to yourself, to ground yourself in the present moment, so that you are centred, no matter the inconsistent and confusing information that is arriving at you from the external. Truth is a feeling and is relative to each person, it is not absolute, and feeling into what is real and what is not comes from being in a state that is the complete opposite state of anxiety, stress, and worry 🙏
The most important thing now is to invest in yourself, in your wellbeing. This is why I’ve taken the decision to move out of the city, to slow down how I live and to align how I am living each moment with what I know is true, relaxation and nourishment must come BEFORE anything else, definitely not AFTER. Wellness is your birthright, not something you must earn, not a privilege, despite how society makes you think 🙏
Sit bones on the earth, breath flowing in and out, cultivating a sense of expansion, which is the opposite of contraction, or being in fear 🙏
Within the recommended guidelines, we can come together safely to practice self-regulation, so that we can co-regulate, and be in community. We are social beings that depend on social bonds for survival, to make dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin, those feel-good chemicals. Living in fear and isolation not only suppresses our immune systems, but also suppresses our bodies ability to synthesise these chemicals naturally and abundantly, and the consequences of this are already being realised🙏
I am a fully qualified pharmacist, I have a diploma in nutrition and health coaching. I have completed almost 1000 hours of Yoga Teacher Training, and I am currently a student of sound healing and herbal medicine, yet it is the fact that I am a human being in love with all of you that read this that ultimately qualifies me to be of service to you 🙏

I’m settling in here at the Farmhouse and preparing to welcome you in this weekend 🙏
My intention for these day retreats is to provide a space of nourishment and relaxation on every level 🙏
Through a series of different styles of yoga, the mind, body and soul will be invited to open and release tension and stress which are the inevitable reality of these curious times 🙏
Then fill up with lovingly prepared vegetarian food, big belly breaths and nourishing relaxation practices, allowing to return home with a full cup 🙏
Allow us to take care of you for the day, soothe your nervous system and energise your immune system 🙏
Self-care is non-negotiable, and this is clearer now than it has ever been before!

About me...

With a background in hospital and community pharmacy, Olivia brings an in-depth knowledge of the challenges faced by people living with health issues to her yoga teaching. She is passionate about addressing the disconnect between lifestyle and health, and finding a balance between mainstream medicine and natural remedies.

In addition to continuing her work and training as a pharmacist, Olivia has broadened her studies into Holistic Nutrition and Dietetics with the Irish Association of Holistic Medicine, Aryuvedic Yoga Massage with Adam Divine, and Ashtanga and Vinyasa-based yoga with Sackies Skalkos of Yoga Republic in Cork. She teaches regularly at various locations in Cork City, as well as in Douglas Yoga Centre
