Hi all,

I put this out there on Instagram yesterday purely just looking for some friends to go running with and it very quickly gained traction and became a full blown running social group!
If anyone on here wants to join us just let me know.
The majority involved are complete beginners and people that haven’t exercised in years so we’re going to build things very slowly. People that are more advanced might join in for the start/end of their own runs.

Picture below shows the jist of what I wanted this to be about!

First run this Sunday meeting at 10am at Cortado down at the Marina, I’ll lead a warm up and we’ll set off to run/skip/walk 3kms returning back to our starting location. We’ll repeat this same session Sunday week for anyone who can’t make this Sunday.

Let me know if anyone else wants to join in it’s nothing too serious just a free, easy/casual way to get moving & socialise 🥰

4 quick, general tips; which are also just good lifestyle habits 🎉

1 - Prepare your food. This will save you a lot of hassle. If the food is there and ready to eat, you're more than likely going to adhere to eating well and eliminate unnecessary trips to the shop to grab a quick sausage roll and bag of crisps. I tend to get asked "what snacks are good?" Personally, I eat 5/6 consistent meals per day and because of this, I don't have room to snack. Snacks count. If you do snack, what you choose to snack on will be down to your daily calorie intake as a whole. There's no one particular "healthy snack" that's better than another.

2 - Be mindful of "hidden calories" .. Reduce/replace your sugary drinks with zero or diet, use zero calorie sprays instead of oils, use passata sauces instead of your usual dolmio jar.. Again, these are just general tips. A dolmio sauce may fit into your overall calorie intake!

3 - Track your steps. I use the StepCount smartphone app, it isn't fully accurate, but I still aim to get in at least 10,000 steps a day - this use of energy accumulates to what you expend throughout the day! Take the stairs, get off the bus 1 stop before your usual

4 - Increase your veg intake. Aside from the actual benefits of veg, If you're getting in a good serving of veg with your meals, you probably won't want to "snack" or over do it on other foods. Make it nice! No one is saying boil broccoli and just eat that there. Aldi/lidl do frozen seasoned veg mixes. Make it nice and try different forms of cooking!

Das all actually bye x

"I don't know what to do with myself in the gym. I got a membership, but barely used it!" - I've come across this countless of times😟

Think about it..I don't do art. I wouldn't have a clue what to do in an art studio. Hand me a paint brush, I'll prob make a shambles of a canvas! It's completely normal as a beginner to not know what to do in a gym. There's countless coaches/fitness Gurus online & you'll always have some kind of a local gym with spinning/various classes. It isn't hard to see why people struggle with where to begin.
Advising someone on what to look for in an online coach/PT is a whole other post
👉🏻If theres a 1 for all prog. being sold by someone, then they more than likely just want your money. Soz Kayla Itsines, your Ploymetric "bikini body" program just isn't for the overweight..N'able now for jumping around the gaf.

PT can be a good starting point - given that the trainer knows what they're doing, honestly cares about you & pays attention to you. This was how I started out! Believe me when I say that I know how daunting it is to go to a gym not knowing what to do, whilst already feeling self conscious. I did 6 weeks PT & haven't looked back since! Lov gym lov my buds. I was shown how to correctly do what I wanted & became comfortable in a gym setting. It was a good starting point at the time for me anyway.
By no means bashing gyms that do fitness classes, they can be very enjoyable for plenty of reasons, but be weary on what you choose to do. Is there a rationale behind what is done in some of these classes? Is the trainer paying attention? Do you really need to do 4 spin classes a week or a million squat jumps to lose weight? Just because you sweat/get short of breathe, doesn't necessarily mean that you're going about the best way of losing weight. Likewise, with the prog. prescription, not every trainer in a gym is going to create an individualised prog for everyone that joins. How many of you were given a prog, but lost it,forgot how to do the exercises or couldn't stick with it? Just some thoughts I had around this entire topic. Ask for guidance off of a trustworthy source. "It worked for my friend" doesn't always mean it'll work for you
