🎄 St Stephen’s Day in Ireland

St Stephen’s Day, celebrated on the 26th of December, is a special day in Ireland — a time steeped in tradition, reflection, and community. Coming just after Christmas Day, it invites us to slow down, enjoy time together, and appreciate the simple joys of the season.

Traditionally, St Stephen’s Day is about kindness and giving, remembering St Stephen, who is known as the first Christian martyr. In Irish culture, it has long been a day for neighbours, friends, and families to come together — sharing stories, laughter, and a sense of belonging. 💚

From winter walks and visits with loved ones to music, sport, and local traditions, the day reminds us of the importance of community, generosity, and looking out for one another.

🎄 Christmas Closure Notice 🎄

Please note that Windmill Healthcare Head Office will be closed over the Christmas period.

✨ All of our Care Centres remain open as normal and very much welcome visitors over the festive season. ✨

Head office will reopen on 2nd January at 9:00am.

🎄 A Lovely Day Making Our Christmas Cake 🍰✨
Today was a truly special day in the nursing home as we gathered together to make our Christmas cake. The smell of spices, fruit and festive cheer filled the room from the moment we started. Everyone had a job to do — from stirring the rich fruit mix to lining the tin and adding little splashes of tradition and laughter along the way.

There were shared memories of Christmases gone by, secret family recipes discussed, and plenty of smiles as we worked together. The atmosphere was cosy and joyful, with Christmas music playing softly in the background and glasses of wine.

When the cake finally went into the oven, the whole room felt proud — a lovely reminder of how meaningful these simple traditions can be. Our Christmas cake is now baking away, and we can’t wait to decorate it together in the coming weeks.

We are so thankful to the wonderful school choir from who visited Windmill House Care Centre for a truly special afternoon of music and Christmas cheer. Their visit brought so much joy to our residents and perfectly captured the true spirit of Christmas — giving back and spreading happiness. 🎄✨

A sincere thank you to the Music Department, led by Ms Ryan, for organising, preparing, and facilitating such a beautiful event. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable time for everyone involved, and our residents loved every moment.

Well done to all the students and staff — your kindness and talent made the day extra special. 🎶🎁

Our Residents and Care team at Ferbane Care Centre recently came together to celebrate Thanksgiving and reflect on all the things we are grateful for. 💛

It was a lovely time filled with smiles, shared moments, and meaningful conversations — giving thanks for friendship, good health, caring staff, supportive families, and the sense of community we are so fortunate to have here.
