Native of Castletownroche, Jill Farrell is a qualified optometrist since 1994 and has been consistently providing top class eye care ever since. Registered with the Association of Optometrists of Ireland, Jill always endeavours to offer only the best level of service. Over the years Jill’s business has progressed rapidly with clinics now established in Mallow Primary Healthcare Centre, Newmarket and Castletownroche.
Top class standards are provided to all of Jills’ patients. Free eye testing and spectacles are available to eligible Medical Card Holders. Liaising with many GP practices Jill uses her Retinal Camera & her new OCT scanner machine to diagnose and monitor many conditions such as Glaucoma and macular degeneration. According to Jill “Regular eye examinations can reduce the risk of blindness in many cases such as Diabetic Retinopathy, Vascular Occlusions and Glaucoma”. Jill also points out that our increasing elderly population needs a higher level of eye-care with Macular Degeneration (Old age Blindness) leading the ranks of blindness in Ireland. As part of her service Jill can provide home visits to patients who have transport difficulties. She also supplies and fits Low Visual Aids.
She also has an OCT machine at her practice in Mallow Primary Healthcare Centre. The OCT provides an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. The OCT scan uses light to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of your eye. It also captures a digital photograph of the surface of your eye to cross reference areas of concern.
