Ever wondered why we put our hands on our heads when we are trying to get our breath back? Whether that is as an athlete (as per Ben Spencer of Bath RFC after he had sprinted the length of the pitch to score today - thanks for the inspo for the post Ben!) or someone having an asthma flare, it is because this position lifts our chest & mid/upper back up into a position that facilitates better breathing. And that means you'll recover quicker from whatever situation prompted you to do it.
It may seem blindingly obvious, but possibly also obvious that we overlook it, but better breathing = better overall health and wellbeing. There is no downside to breathing better. It's a fairly simple win.
You don't need to be either an asthmatic or an athlete to help yourself to breathe better, & no, I'm not suggesting you walk around with your hands on your head all day. But do stop & think for a minute about how you can adopt that lifted position more often in your day.
Here's one way: lift your chest.
Just a small bit, not so much that you hyperextend your low back, just enough to overcome gravity pushing your ribcage down. Because that is what gravity will do unless we engage our brain & our body to overcome it.
So, T**s Up Gals!๐
Contact us to find out how to support yourself internally, by using your body, with other such titbits๐คช, as well as externally with optimal bra-fitting.
The internal bit is what makes PostureFitting different from a retail bra-fitting. We teach you how to DIY for bra-fitting, but we go beyond the bra to also include your brain & your body.
