Pregnant women you need to know this 👇

The easiest position for baby to birth is if their back is to your front( OA). Birth with a back to back/OP baby is possible but it tends to be longer, more painful with more risk of needing vacuum/forceps or and emergency caesarean.

If you know before you are in labour there are things you can do. ( this applies to breech/transverse too.)

🤰There are biomechanics exercises you can do to create room for your baby to turn.
🤰You can do to your local acupuncturist and get a home treatment called moxa which can really help to turn your baby.
🤰There are baby turn hypnobirthing tracks available ( I have one for sale on my website) which can help reduce stress and anxiety.

About 80% of OP babies will turn in labour but it can be a long and painful process so why not sort it beforehand?

Just keep asking at every maternity appointment – where is the back? And if it is not OA (baby's back to your front and head down) then contact your local acupuncturist, get the hypnobirth track and/or do the exercises.

Pregnant women for an easier and more positive birth you need to stop👇
🤰Listening to the horror stories – they are really not going to help you. The more you tell your brain that this is what to expect in birth then the more you are going to feel pain, experience stress and set yourself up for the same type of birth.

🤰Listening to others’ opinions – decide on your birth plan and keep it to yourself. No one else other than your partner needs to know or offer and opinion. It’s your body, your baby, your choice.

🤰Obsessing about your due date – only 4% of babies arrive on their due date. It’s a guess at best.

🤰Being the one who understands the birth plan. Your birth partner needs to be ready to fully advocate for you and your baby in labour. That means they need to totally understand every choice in your birth plan and be fully confident and ready to defend it. Otherwise, they are going to cave at the first obstacle.

🤰Worrying about getting the nursery ready. It’s going to be use for storage for the first 6 months while baby is in the room with you. It can wait, believe me. You have more important prep to be getting on with.

Would you add anything else? Let me know in the comments.

Pregnant women, before you decide on any birth intervention, here are your 2 most important questions that you ( or more ideally your birth partner) should be asking

Is baby ok?
Is mum ok?

If the answer to both of these is yes then why is this intervention needed?
If there is no emergency can it wait?

Often in birth if mum and baby are fine there should not be a need for any interventions. Or you can at least delay them and see how it goes.

For example if they feel your labour is too slow or “failing to progress” ( note the true definition of FTP is 4hrs at 6cm) and you may get told you need syntocinon/pictocin to move things along. But if you and baby are ok then what is the rush?

If you’re both fine and are happy to allow things to progress without intervention then you are allowed to.

It is always your body, your baby, your choice.

If you would like a free Birth plan template to help you make your choices for labour then comment PLAN below and I will send to you.

The Maternity Indicator Report for 2024 is out and it shows 👇

For first time mums the average induction rate is 48%! In some hospitals the rate us as high as 54%.

It's 31% for those who have given birth before.

These are Irish results but results are similar for many western countries including the UK and USA.

Here is what you can do to try to avoid an induction

🤰Eat dates as they increase your chances of spontaneous labour
🤰Prelabour Acupuncture has also been shown to reduce risk of induction
🤰Ask about babies position so you can make an informed decision on breaking your waters. If your baby is in a poor position then removing the cushion of waters is goung to make it harder for them to turn and increase your risk of induction and forceps birth
🤰Refuse syntocinon if your bishops score is
