If you have decided that an epidural is an option you want to have, but would like to try without for a while then don’t let them offer it to you.

Why?

Because being offered an epidural by midwife/doctor can mess with your head. You may be doing ok but as soon as they offer it to you you can start thinking

What do they know that I don’t?

Do they think I won’t cope with the next bit?

Do they think it’s going to last a lot longer?

Do they think I need it?

You can end up in a spiral and agreeing to an epidural out of fear rather than need.

Instead rely on your own intuition and put in your birth plan that they must not offer you an epidural, you will decide and ask when you want it. It’s a simple change but a good one.

If you'd like a free birth plan template comment PLAN below or DM me and I’ll send you one.

Pregnant ladies are you wondering what traits you baby will inherit from you?

Here are a few
1. Physical traits such as hair and skin colour

2. Intelligence – the best predictor of a child’s intelligence is the mothers IQ!

3. Sleeping patterns – ask your mum how you slept as a baby it might help you (or not 😬).

4. Immunity superpowers – through placenta and breastmilk mums pass on precious antibodies to protect their babies.

5. Emotional blueprint – a baby’s ability to emotionally regulate and deal with stress is shaped by mums emotional blueprint in pregnancy and postpartum.
Which one surprised you? Let me know in the comments

Holding your breath while pushing will
🤰Increase your risk of tearing
🤰Reduce oxygen to your baby
🤰Reduce oxygen to your womb

Do this breath instead.

I know this from experience. I held my breath in my first birth. Eventually my contractions slowed diwn so much my baby need a vacuum assist and I ended up with a 3rd degree tear.

Second time round I knew better and I breathed my baby out into the world - no major tearing despite the previous scar.

This common hospital practice actually increases your risk of tearing as well as depriving your baby and your womb of oxygen.

What is it?

Coached pushing. Where you are told that in order for your baby to be born you need to put your chin to your chest, hold your breath and push, push, push into your bottom. Also known as purple pushing as you quickly go purple in the face.

Research actually shows that breathing through your pushing is better for you and your baby. Less tearing as there is less pressure on your perineum. Less fetal distress as there is more available oxygen.

And more oxygen to your uterus which is a big muscle trying to do a big job.
I purpled pushed in my first birth and my contractions ended up slowing down ( I know now why) and I ended up with a vacuum birth and 3rd degree tear.

So breathe your baby out instead. If you would like a video of a breathing technique for the pushing stage comment BREATH below and I will send to you. Or DM if you would prefer.
