This is always a very busy time of the year for us due to the usual seasonal ailments however we are particularly busy at present. Many Patients are reporting and are concerned about symptoms of colds, influenza, RSV, Scarlet Fever/Strep A and also Covid. Our priority will always be the clinically urgent Patients therefore it may take us longer to contact those are assessed as routine.

Please be patient with our Colleagues as they work to answer and return your calls and to see everyone in our clinics that need to be seen face-to-face.

We would ask Patients to consider if they genuinely need urgent care before phoning.

There is a very informative Children’s Symptom Checker for immediate advice e.g., increasing fluid intake in children and could be useful when considering if you need to be seen urgently. A link to the Childrens Checker is below.

There is also a guide for a range of adult conditions and illnesses, which is here:

Our Colleagues in the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust have developed a very helpful video on how to get children to take their medications.

They have also developed a very informative symptoms checker for children that clearly explains advice and what to do on a range of conditions such as Strep A, sore throats, tummy pain, earache, vomiting and diarrhoea, nosebleeds, rashes, swallowed objects and many more.

There is a handy traffic light system to guide you through what to do in different situations:

Urgent / emergency situations fall under red symptoms
Less urgent situations fall under amber symptoms
Non-urgent situations fall under green symptoms

A copy of the link to the website is shown below.

Our Colleagues in the Public health Agency have created this short video about Scarlet Fever, explaining what it is and symptoms to look out for. Please take a few minutes to watch it.

We are receiving a high number of calls at the minute from Patients and Parents concerned that they or their children may have it. This may mean it takes us longer than we would like to call you back. Please be patient with us at this very busy time as we work to responds to everyone's calls. Thank you.
