The Dept. of Social Protection, has reinstated the optical benefit on spectacles that was previously available. Relevant persons who have the required social welfare payments, are now entitled to a 2yrly eye test AND contribution towards the cost of spectacles required.

Coming on 27th March self-employed people with required PRSI contribution s, will qualify for optical and dental benefit s. The Optical scheme is currently limited to free examination every 2yrs.
In October this will extend to further treatment s.

Now, recently installed in Donegal Practice, OCT scanner. Combined with fundal photography, this a non -invasive procedure which scans the posterior retinal layers. This allows a more comprehensive examination. It is valuable in detecting damage resulting from macular degeneration, diabetes, glaucoma and more.
