A Race like no other,
My last Hyrox was at the end of March this year.
Three days later, I spent 6 hours in emergency brain surgery.
This past weekend, I did pro doubles, and three days later, I’m out with friends for a meal after a sauna/sea swim, laughing. I’ve already won.
I am not an anomaly.
As I said, when these things happen, it’s easy to fall victim, but you cannot let that happen. Iv never met a strong person with an easy past. Even if my body was weak and vulnerable, a lot of these fights are won or lost in the head (no pun intended).
It’s why I did the Cork Half Marathon two days after finishing radiotherapy, why I wanted to compete again in Hyrox, to prove to no one else but to prove a point to myself, and be strong for my family.
Whenever I speak about what happened to me this year, I turn off comments.
I don’t want anyone’s sympathy or opinion.
To tell a story and hopefully help someone to help themselves regardless of their situation.
As a business owner and fitness professional,
“set the standard,
walk the walk,
lead by example”
doesn’t have to just be shown through what level of body fat you are,
your bench press,
or average pace,
but more importantly through your actions,
habits, values, character,
and how you respond to certain situations.
No world records were set in Dublin,
but it was a huge personal achievement for me,
and a time PB with no penalties.
Also, thank you and well done to who also had his own personal stressors the last time we competed together and has continued to grow his own business to new heights in the fitness industry this year, constantly getting better.
To make it better, over 12 clients competing in Dublin and every single one hitting PBs with no issues.
When it’s there, we take it, especially on home soil ☘️
