-> Hip Replacement
Hip replacement surgery is a procedure in which a surgeon makes an incision over the side of the thigh, removes the diseased parts of the hip joint, and replaces them with new, artificial parts. Why it’s performed
Your doctor may recommend hip replacement if you have significant pain, inflammation and damage to your hip joint due to conditions such as:
• Osteoarthritis (most common)
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Osteonecrosis (avascular necrosis)
• Injury such as hip fracture
• Tumor in the hip joint

-> Knee replacement -
Knee replacement surgery, also known as arthroplasty, is generally regarded as an effective treatment for end-stage knee arthritis. It results in improved knee function and significantly relieves severe pain caused by degenerative joint diseases. All knee replacement procedures are generally divided into 2 major groups, depending on whether the knee is replaced totally or partially. A knee joint is often compared to a hinge which allows to flex, extend and limitedly rotate the lower leg. Structurally it resembles three separate joints: a slightly rounded end of the thigh bone forms 2 separate articulations with a slightly hollow end of the shinbone which has a mobile kneecap on top. The most common indication for total knee replacement is severe osteoarthritis that affects all surfaces of these synergic joints and causes pain which is unresponsive to medical management.

-> Cataracts
What is a cataract? The eye is like a camera where the retina is the film at the back, and the lens is positioned at the front of the eye, just behind the pupil. A cataract is a clouding in the lens of the eye. The lens in your eye focuses light and is constructed of proteins and fluid. The proteins are arranged in a parallel fashion to allow the light to pass through the lens without interruption. The pupil dilates and contracts to control the level of light reaching the retina and the lens adjusts automatically to allow you to see objects clearly at various distances.

-> Bariatrics
Overweight and obesity is defined as ”abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health” (World Health Organisation, 2017). It is a progressive, chronic and complex disease affecting all ages and genders. Body mass index (BMI) is the most widely used measure of obesity in clinical practice as direct assessment of body fat is not readily available. BMI defined as weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters (kg/m2), is considered to be the best available population marker for monitoring trends in overweight and obesity in adults, children and young people over time.

Sharon's Gallbladder Surgery at HCB Dénia with Dr Antonio Alberola ✅🏥

"I had been having trouble with my gallbladder for about four years, and it kept getting worse as time went on. Last August it reached a peak. I was in A&E with severe symptoms and was told I’d be waiting about a month. I suspected gallstones myself because the symptoms were exactly the same. They sent me for a CT scan and confirmed that I did have gallstones."

The EU Cross Border Directive - An Option for Irish Patients ✅

The video below is an official HSE video explaining the healthcare options available to Irish people through the EU Cross Border Directive - which has been in place since 2014.

This scheme allows Irish patients to travel to another EU/EEA country (such as Spain) for planned healthcare and claim reimbursement from the HSE, as long as the treatment is available in Ireland.

All Irish residents who have been living and working in the Republic of Ireland for more than 12 months are eligible. You don't need to be on a waiting list, all you need is a GP referral.

Healthcare Abroad are Ireland's leading cross border treatment facilitator, here's how we support you:

Accommodation and Transfers: Free airport-to-hotel transport and daily hospital transfers

Medical Appointments: Pre- and post-operation consultations with top specialists

Physiotherapy: Daily sessions during recovery required, fully reimbursed by the HSE.

Reimbursement Made Easy
While the Directive is a reimbursement scheme, Healthcare Abroad handles all HSE paperwork to help ensure you receive your refund as smoothly and quickly as possible (refunds may take up to 16 weeks).

Financial Support
Many Patients access financing through the Credit Unions, and Healthcare Abroad provide supporting documentation, we are also available to answer any questions you might have.
