Most of us know, or will know, that being a caregiver is exhausting, demanding and often heartbreaking. The question is how can we take care of others when we are worn out?

We find that being present is often the most we can do.

“I showed up today as best as I could and I will try again tomorrow,” says Melissa Fisher, who cared for her parents and aunt, all with varying degrees of dementia, while working and raising children.

Being a family caregiver can be frustrating and exhausting, but there are ways to stay well: https://on.wsj.com/3YTkEWF

This is Andre, Britain's youngest dementia patient, who has sadly died at the age of 24 💔
Andre passed away on December 27 after spending weeks battling an infection in hospital.
He was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia - a rare form of the disease affecting about one in 20 people with a dementia diagnosis - due to a protein mutation a month before his 23rd birthday.
His mum Sam said: "Andre was a cheeky lad with a great sense of humour. He had a heart of gold."
The family have decided to donate his brain to science in the hope of battling the cruel disease.
Sam added: "If in the future, if Andre has been able to help just one more family have a precious few more years with a loved one, that would mean the absolute world."
Such a wonderful thing to do at such a heartbreaking time 💔 RIP Andre 🕊️

The holidays often bring families together and with that time together, moments of quiet reflection.

Many people return home after Christmas having noticed subtle changes in an older relative:
a little more difficulty with mobility, lapses in memory, missed routines, or a sense that daily life is becoming harder to manage.

These observations can be worrying, but they are also important.

At Royal Homecare, we support families at this exact moment. We offer a free, confidential conversation to talk through what you’ve noticed, answer questions, and explore what support may be appropriate…now or in the months ahead. Through our services, we help identify trusted, compassionate care professionals who can support independence, safety, and dignity at home.

There is no obligation - just clarity, reassurance, and expert guidance.

Sometimes the most caring step is simply to start the conversation.
