Research has shown that HBOT heightens the synthesis of nitric oxide, which in turn results in the release of stem cells. It was first discovered that HBOT increases stem cell activity in 2005, when a study revealed that after 20 combination treatments, stem cell concentration increased eightfold.

Concussion, a mild traumatic brain injury, is a common sports injury. In concussion, the brain tissue is bruised when it impacts the inflexible skull due to a blow or jolt to the head causing an inflammatory response and swelling of the tissue as the brain responds to injury. The rationale for the use HBOT is based on its ability to dramatically increase, by 2-3 times, the delivery of oxygen to injured brain tissues to promote healing, and reduce swelling, inflammation and increased pressure in the brain

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may help athletes at all skill levels heal more quickly and get back to their favorite pursuit. Many sports injuries involve strains and sprains, which naturally cause swelling and edema (accumulation of excess fluid in connective tissue). These natural reactions to injury compress blood vessels and restrict the vital flow of oxygen-carrying plasma and red blood cells to the injury site. Cells and tissues surrounding the injury site become starved for oxygen, which impedes healing. In extreme cases, cell and tissue death can occur. HBOT may promote faster healing in common sports injuries such as:

High Ankle Sprains
Fractures
Pulled Muscles
Achilles Tendinitis

So how does being inside a pressurized chamber give us more oxygen?

A: When we sit inside a chamber pressurized at twice the normal air pressure it may not feel different, but we breathe double the number of molecules. Breathing pure oxygen in such a chamber gives us 10 times the regular amount of oxygen. In one hour we can inhale 2.4 pounds of oxygen! Red blood cells instantly fill with oxygen and the extra oxygen dissolves directly into the blood fluid. In a few minutes this extra oxygen builds up tissue oxygen levels far above normal. This action has been scientifically proven to stimulate healing. In order to raise tissue oxygen tension to 80 mmHg for optimal healing one must have oxygen delivered under increased atmospheric conditions. This is not a plastic bag but a solid chamber certified to safely hold the high pressure. How high? The pressure against a 30" hyperbaric chamber hatch at 2 atmospheres has about 10 tons of pressure exerted against it!

Ischemia is a broad category of diseases that results from a lack of oxygen supply to a particular tissue. The best-known ischemic conditions are heart attack (lack of oxygen supply to the heart) and stroke (lack of oxygen supply to the brain).

HBOT is approved for the treatment of acute traumatic ischemias (that is, those caused by a traumatic injury). Some doctors use it to prevent reperfusion injury after a heart attack, and new research suggests that it could help with stroke as well [43, 44].

In 73 post-stroke patients (RCT), 40 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy significantly decreased damage to the brain and nerves [45].

In 12 patients suffering from a stroke after heart surgery, hyperbaric oxygen therapy caused a full recovery in 10 out of the 12 patients [46].

Multiple animal studies with rats have found that hyperbaric oxygen therapy promoted growth and decreased inflammation of the brain tissues. Additionally, it increased oxygen supply and improved oxygen absorption

A study from Tel Aviv University (TAU) and the Shamir Medical Center in Israel indicates that hyperbaric oxygen treatments (HBOT) in healthy aging adults can stop the aging of blood cells and reverse the aging process. In the biological sense, the adults' blood cells actually grow younger as the treatments progress.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is breathing 100% oxygen while under increased atmospheric pressure. HBOT is a treatment that can be traced back to the 1600s. The first well-known chamber was built and run by a British clergyman named Henshaw.

Just ask Cathey Smith. Five years ago, her ejection fraction (EF, a measure of the heart’s pumping ability) was life-threateningly low at 15 percent. Her entire body was swollen with fluids, and even eating tired her to the point of exhaustion. Conventional heart failure treatments were not helping. She was on a slew of medications, in and out of the hospital, and her doctors in Tennessee gave her no hope of recovery.

Whitaker Wellness, America's premier wellness facility, shares heart failure treatments that are safe, effective, noninvasive, and enduring.
