Ved Karma - Ayurveda, Nutrition & Yoga

Ved Karma - Ayurveda, Nutrition & Yoga Ved Karma Ayurveda blends yoga, Ayurvedic wisdom, and mindful living to support balance and inner connection. Come home to yourself. How does Ayurveda work?

Through classes, retreats, and holistic guidance, we offer a grounded path to healing and self-discovery. The name 'Ved Karma' comes from the word 'Veda', which translates as knowledge and 'Karma', which translates as action, both from Sanskrit. Putting the knowledge from the Vedas (ancient Indian scripture) into action in our daily lives can help to prevent disease and can help to ease discomfort from many ailments that present themselves throughout our lives. The aim of Ved Karma is to give others the valuable tools and resources from the knowledge of Ayurveda, Yoga and Nutrition, so that they can empower themselves to feel happy, healthy, and capable of managing life’s pressures. What is Ayurveda and where did it come from? Ayurveda (Ayurvedic Medicine) is a traditional system of medicine that can be both preventative and curative. The origins of Ayurveda can be dated back to more than 5,000 years ago. The Charaka Samhita is a Sanskrit text written on Ayurveda. The information was compiled and codified by many and revised by Charaka, known as the 'Father of Ayurveda'. Ayurveda is attributed to Dhanvantari, who was the physician to the Gods in Hindu mythology, who received this information from Brahma (God of creation/ God of the Universe). Concepts of Ayurveda were first seen in the Atharvaveda - one of the four Vedas. Ayurveda has both preventative and curative aspects. The preventative components include strict personal and social discipline. Exercise, a sattvic diet, yoga and meditation are remedial aspects of Ayurveda. Curative aspects of Ayurveda include herbal medicines, external preparations, physiotherapy and diet. These preventative and curative aspects of Ayurveda are adapted to the personal requirements of each person. What is Hatha Yoga? The word ‘Hatha’, is a combination of two words: ‘Ha’ and ‘tha’. ‘Ha’ represents the esoteric sun, the masculine energy; while ‘tha’ represents the moon energy, the feminine. The word ‘yoga’ means to join, to yoke or to unite. A hatha yoga practice aims to join or balance these two energies, which are inherent in all of us, no matter the gender. The practice of hatha yoga can be seen as asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), mantra (chanting), mudra (hand gestures), shatkriyas (cleansing techniques) and meditation. It is generally a physical practice to prepare the body for a higher possibility. The word ‘hatha’ can also be translated as ‘force’, but this does not mean you have to contort your body into complex postures or stand on your head. It simply means that consistency and discipline are needed to attain the benefits of practicing hatha yoga or leading a yogic lifestyle. Practicing hatha yoga with a sense of humility and practicing in a way that suits your individual body can be a fantastic and fulfilling process.

Join us at TIGH’N ALLUIS - Irish Sweat House on Sunday 28th at 11am - 1.30pm for a morning of wellness: a yoga practice in the open air under the stretch tent, followed by a session in the large yurt sauna and cold plunge in either the barrels or the fresh water lake.

The yoga session will be themed for autumn according to Ayurveda, which is associated with the vata dosha (air + ether), which brings the qualities of dryness, lightness, mobility and coolness. This session will therefore will help us to ground, stabilise and nourish ourselves.

Afterwards, the heat and darkness of the yurt sauna will allow us to deeply release and relax followed by short exposures to the cold, which help to reboot the nervous system helping you to feel lighter and clearer. Everything is optional of course - if you wish to skip the cold exposure!

After the session, you can stay around for some tea and snacks while enjoying the view of the Dublin/ Wicklow Mountains.

What to bring:
🧘🏻‍♀️ Please bring your own yoga mat to the event
🩱 Swimsuit/ shorts for the sauna and plunge
🧖🏼‍♀️Two towels: one the sit on in the sauna, one to dry yourself
🩴 Bring flip flops as the ground can be slippy up there

We hope to see you there!
