Imagine the scenario - a petrol station opens near you promising its customers low cost fuel. You think - "Fantastic - I can go there and fill up my car and save myself money!" So your car goes into the red and you decide, βIβm going to go to that new station and fill up!β You can't believe your luck - your fuel gauge is back up at full and you've saved money. Happy days! Everyone loves a bargain right? You drive to work the next day and notice it took a little bit more fuel than normal - what the hell - it was cheap and hey if I need to fill up again, itβs not costing me much. Next time you're running low you go and fill up again! Then one morning a few weeks later, you go out to start the car. You notice itβs a little bit sluggish to get going and itβs chugging and giving off weird smells from the exhaust. Eventually it just cuts out. You're really angry - your car was running perfectly fine until you put that cheap fuel in it; now look at it - its not running properly, mechanically there's something wrong and its likely to end up costing you money for someone to put it right! All because you went for convenience, didn't think about the quality of the fuel or the impact it would have on your engine. Now imagine that car is your body and that cheap, low cost petrol station is the processed food industry - we're filling up because itβs cheap and convenient every day and not realising the consequences. The old saying βyour health is your wealthβ is something many of us take for granted until we have the misfortune of something going wrong. Itβs so important to remember that you are fuelling your body every day β in a world so focussed on efficiency and sustainability β lets not just adopt these principles for our cars and our homes, lets also think about how we fuel our bodies β the greatest combustion engine of all!
