Good s*xual hygiene is one of the ways we take care of each other.
It reduces infections, protects our partners, and keeps s*x something we can enjoy with confidence. Small habits really do make a big impact.

Actions like handwashing, toy cleaning, safer condom use, and not sharing personal items can significantly reduce the spread of Shigella and other infections.

The current state of trans healthcare in Ireland is unacceptable. With over 2,000 people on waiting lists and services ranked as the worst in Europe, this is an urgent health and equality issue.

Gay Health Network (GHN) strongly supports the Labour Party's Dรกil motion calling for fundamental reform.

We need:

A shift to a modern, affirming, GP-led, informed consent model, in line with international best practice (WPATH/WHO).

The immediate development of a National Clinical Programme that decentralises care from Dublin and ensures timely, high-quality services for our trans community.

It's time for the Government to act. Trans people deserve accessible and affirming healthcare as a basic right.

World AIDS Day 2025: Overcoming disruption. Transforming the response.
Today, we pause to remember every life lost to HIV and AIDS. Their courage inspires us to fight for a future free from stigma and new transmissions.

The U=U Success Story
We celebrate the success of the โ€˜You, Me and HIVโ€™ campaign, which, in partnership with the Tribe, opened hearts and minds across Ireland.

The result is incredible: Awareness that a person on effective HIV treatment cannot transmit the virus (U=U) has soared! It jumped from 29% to 48% after the campaign launch, proving that community voices and education are the strongest weapons against stigma.

PrEP Access is Failing
While we celebrate progress, access to prevention is too hard. PrEP is a powerful prevention tool, but over 800 people in Ireland were still waiting for appointments in 2025, with some clinics having waiting times up to a year. PrEP works; access shouldn't be this hard.

Together for the Future
Progress is not guaranteed, especially with global funding cuts putting services under pressure. Ireland can end new HIV transmissions, but only if we work together. We call for fair access to PrEP for everyone who needs it.

Today, on Trans Day of Remembrance 2025, we honour the trans and gender-diverse people whose lives have been lost to violence and discrimination.

This year, the rise in transphobic rhetoric and targeted hostility, both online and offline, has created an increasingly unsafe environment for many in our community.

At Gay Health Network, we stand firmly with trans people in Ireland and around the world.

We remember those we have lost, we acknowledge the fear and pain many are experiencing today, and we recommit to challenging misinformation, prejudice and hate wherever it appears.

Our work continues: advocating for equality, ensuring access to inclusive healthcare, and building communities where every trans person can live openly, safely and without fear.

Racism harms mental health.

Exclusion, microaggressions, and stereotypes arenโ€™t harmless - they take a real toll. They create unsafe spaces and deepen struggles for racially minoritised members of our community.

Be part of the solution:
Listen.
Speak up.

We are delighted to share the Gay Health Network Annual Report 2024 โ€“ Celebrating 30 Years of Community Action

Weโ€™re proud to share the GHN Annual Report 2024, marking three decades since our founding in 1994.

Over the past year, GHN continued to work with and for our communities โ€” providing trusted s*xual health information and amplifying voices across Irelandโ€™s LGBTQI+ sector.

๐Ÿ”น Key Highlights from 2024:
โ€ข 2.3M+ Meta impressions & 44.9K Man2Man.ie visits
โ€ข National Hepatitis B Awareness Campaign and launch of DoxyPEP interim guidance
โ€ข EMIS-2024 research
โ€ข Gay Health Forum 2024 at Dublin Castle
โ€ข Making Waves film screened internationally and now streaming on RTร‰ Player
โ€ข Preparation for our GHN30 exhibition, May 2025 at Trinity College Dublin

None of this would be possible without our incredible network members, volunteers, funders (HSE S*xual Health Programme, DCEDIY), and community partners across Ireland. Thank you!

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œThis milestone offers a moment to reflect on the sustained collaboration that defines GHN โ€“ listening, responding, and ensuring everyone in our community has the tools to live healthier, safer, and more informed lives.โ€
โ€” Alan Coyne, Chairperson, GHN

A huge thank you to everyone who made our Gay Health Forum on Friday, September 26th, such a resounding success!

We were delighted to host a room filled with esteemed guests, healthcare professionals, and community advocates for a day dedicated to crucial updates in s*xual health. The agenda was packed with vital information, and we are incredibly grateful for the robust and insightful discussions that followed.

A special thank you to Minister Mary Murnane O'Connor for her opening address and to our distinguished speakers for sharing their invaluable expertise including, Professor Ellen Crushell, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Professor Fiona Lyons, Clinical Lead with the HSE S*xual Health Programme (SHP).

Also a huge thanks to all our speakers and attendees for making the forum very special.

We are also profoundly grateful to IHREC Comms The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and their wonderful staff for hosting us in such a fitting and welcoming venue. Your support was instrumental to the day's success.

Seeing such a strong commitment to advancing LGBTQ+ healthcare from across the public and voluntary sectors is truly inspiring. The collaboration, genuine discussion and shared purpose in that room are what drive real progress.
