๐ NERVEmber: Raising Awareness for Chronic Pain & Diabetic Neuropathy
Diabetic neuropathy is a major, often under-recognized complication of diabetes with significant clinical and socioeconomic impact.
๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐:
โข Up to 50% of individuals with diabetes will develop diabetic neuropathy during their lifetime.*
โข 10โ26% are affected by painful diabetic neuropathy, a chronic pain condition associated with reduced quality of life, sleep disruption, depression, increased healthcare utilization, and a higher risk of foot ulcers and amputation.
As we observe NERVEmber (Nerve Pain Awareness Month), itโs important for clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and community advocates to:
โข Prioritize early detection and screening
โข Improve access to multidisciplinary pain management
โข Advance patient education on prevention and foot care
โข Support innovation in neuropathy treatment and neuroprotective therapies
โข Address the psychological and social burden of chronic nerve pain
โข Chronic pain conditions, including diabetic neuropathy, often go unseen โ but the impact on patients is profound.
โข Increasing awareness is a crucial step toward better outcomes and improved quality of life.
