Chronic Pain Ireland

Chronic Pain Ireland Chronic Pain Ireland supports people living with chronic pain through education, advocacy, and community programmes. RCN No: 20028022
(1)

Proud winner of the Carmichael Good Governance Award for 2 years running, recognising excellence in governance. To create a greater awareness of Chronic Pain and to provide relevant information and support for those living with the condition, for their families and friends. Established in 1992, Chronic Pain Ireland CLG. is the only national organisation providing information and support services to people living with Chronic Pain. We are a registered charity, and we work with all stakeholders including those living with chronic pain, their families and carers, health professionals, students, researchers and others interested in chronic pain. CPI has demonstrated professional leadership in Ireland and throughout Europe by raising awareness of chronic pain, educating in methods of dealing with the condition, and advocating for the needs of people living in chronic pain. We advocate for multi-disciplinary treatment centres, improved health services and changes to the educational curriculum so that healthcare providers are more aware of the condition and the challenges of diagnosing, treating and managing the condition. We adhere to the principles of good corporate governance. We are transparent and compliant with all regulatory requirements. The Scheme to Support National Organisations is funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Rural and Community Development

CPI gratefully acknowledges SSNO funding and the ongoing support of Pobal and the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Programme and Scheme to Support National Organisations (SSNO) 2022-2025

Poor sleep is common in chronic pain. A lack of sleep can build up over time which makes everything worse. Rather than sleep being a side issue, itโ€™s a crucial part of pain management. Join us for our 'Sleep and Racing minds' workshop (which is only running this month).

๐Ÿ“Œ 9 Apr, 10:30 am

This 2-hour interactive workshop, weโ€™ll explore:
๐Ÿ’ก Understanding the cycles of sleep,
๐Ÿ’ก What happens when we canโ€™t get to or back to sleep,
๐Ÿ’ก Simple techniques to improve sleep,
๐Ÿ’ก How to deal with a racing mind and ideas from โ€˜sleep hygieneโ€™.

Find out more on our website. Note: Only 2 spaces left.

A CPI member who recently attended one of our workshops said: 'The workshop was absolutely excellent. The instructor was highly effective - calm, supportive, and reassuring throughout. They encouraged everyone to ask questions and share their opinions, creating an open and engaging learning environment.

Their approach was particularly impressive, showing kindness and respect to all participants. Sincere thanks to everyone involved in organising the course. The effort and dedication put into delivering it are truly appreciated.'

๐ŸŒป This complimentary Sunflower Lanyard is issued to all members of Chronic Pain Ireland. The card is a specific Hidden Disabilities Sunflower for those living with โ€˜chronic painโ€™ and helps make an invisible condition a bit more visible.
๐Ÿ’ก We often face barriers daily, including a lack of understanding and negative attitudes, and the Sunflower lanyard discreetly identifies that we may need support, help, or just a little more time in shops, transport, or public spaces.
๐ŸŒŽ The Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol for non-visible disabilities, also known as hidden disabilities or invisible disabilities. The lanyard is very useful when โœˆ๏ธ๐Ÿš‰ travelling or at those times where we may need a little extra time or some assistance. Some of our members have reported a greater level of assistance in a hospital setting, also.

Today is Social Prescribing Day โ€“ 26th March ๐Ÿ’œ

Did you know thereโ€™s a free service in Ireland that helps people connect with activities and supports in their local community?

Itโ€™s called social prescribing, and itโ€™s supported by the HSE.

Social prescribing links adults (18+) with non-clinical community activities that support mental, physical, and social wellbeing. This can include gardening groups, art classes, exercise sessions, volunteering opportunities, and local support groups ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿค

At the heart of the service are Link Workers, who take the time to understand what matters most to you and help connect you with supports that suit your needs.

Many people use social prescribing to help with loneliness, isolation, anxiety, or the challenges of living with a long-term health condition.

The aim is simple: to help people feel more connected, supported, and engaged in their community.

๐Ÿ‘‰ You can access social prescribing through your GP or by self-referral.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Supports vary locally and may include transport to appointments, community activities, and more.

At its core, social prescribing is about โ€œwhat matters to the personโ€ rather than โ€œwhat is the matter with the person.โ€
