How to avoid unpleasant consequences of sunbathing at the same time capturing a fair and healthy tan? The basic requirement is the skilful use of cosmetics to ensure effective protection from UV rays.
Here are some secrets for safe tanning:
1. Learn how to read labels properly.
Good cosmetic sunscreen is one that provides protection against both UVB (labels usually use abbrevaion SPF) and UVA rays. UVB rays cause sunburns. UVA are responsible for many photosensivity reactions and photodermatoses. Both UVA and UVB contribute to long-term photodamage and to the changes responsible for skin cancer and ageing.
2. Choose appropriate sun protection.
The lighter skin, the higher the protection. Number specified with SPF indicates the time that the person may be present in the sun without the threat of burns. That's mean the higher the number the better protecion. For example, an SPF 8 should enable a person to remain 8 times longer in the sun without burning.
3.Learn how to use sun creams.
Apply the necessary amount of cream half an hour before sun exposure. Aplication should be repeated frequently, every 2-3 hours (even in the case of water-resistant creams).
4. After suncare.
Despite the best protection, the sun dries the skin and triggers the destructive free radicals. Therefore, after bathing in the sun you need to use cosmetics that restore proper skin hydration and ease irritation.
