Development of Data-driven Metrics for Balance Impairment and Fall Risk Assessment in Older Adults
A study published this week in IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering reports a new method to assess balance and falls risk in older adults.
https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/9681291
This research provides additional support and validation for our Kinesis Balance™ product and is a collaboration with University College Dublin.
We demonstrates the reliability of the single inertial sensor derived measures of balance and report the development and validation of the Balance score included in Kinesis Balance™.

A new paper from the Kinesis team, published in Sensors MDPI reports a novel digital biomarker for falls in Parkinson's Disease (PD), to help improve the assessment of PD in clinical trials.
https://www.mdpi.com/1424-8220/22/1/54
This research, a collaboration with Lundbeck A/S and University College Dublin, reports the development and validation of a digital endpoint using wearable sensors and gait analysis to predict the number of falls experienced by a person with PD.

People with Parkinson’s disease (PD) experience significant impairments to gait and balance; as a result, the rate of falls in people with Parkinson’s disease is much greater than that of the general population. Falls can have a catastrophic impact on quality of life, often resulting in....

Unsupervised assessment of balance and falls risk using a smartphone and machine learning!
https://lnkd.in/eT-rU9Y

A new paper published today in Sensors reports analysis of data from 594 assessments using the Kinesis Balance smartphone app:
-Strong association between self-reported falls history and the scores produced by the app, suggests they are clinically useful outcome measures.
-Results suggest that unsupervised, self-directed assessment of balance in the home is feasible.

This research was a collaboration between Kinesis, University College Dublin and the Univerity of Limerick.
