Chrysalis staff visited Comunidade Vida e Paz a male-only residential service located on the outskirts of Lisbon.
The service has the capacity to accommodate 65 males who arrive directly following medical detox. The residential programme typically runs for 18 months to two years, with the possibility of extension depending on the individual’s circumstances.
Family intervention is considered an important part of the programme, supporting service users in rebuilding and strengthening relationships with their families.
The service collaborates with Housing First initiatives to support service users with reintegration into the community. In addition, the organisation provides supported accommodation on site, consisting of seven apartments.
This residential unit is unique in that it also works with individuals who have mental health difficulties or other vulnerabilities, including some who are not experiencing addiction issues.
The organisation also delivers various outreach services throughout Lisbon and surrounding areas, providing basic necessities such as toiletries, clothing, and food to people in need.
