Smoke Free Campus 🚭 The Rotunda Hospital, the oldest continuously operating maternity hospital in the world, and one of the busiest in Europe! We pride ourselves on respecting the individual woman’s right to choose the care pathway that suits her needs and celebrate the fact that for over 274 years, hundreds of thousands of women have trusted the Rotunda to care for themselves and their babies during this precious and exciting time. Founded in 1745 by Bartholomew Mosse, surgeon and man-midwife, the original Dublin Lying-In Hospital was a maternity training hospital, the first of its kind anywhere. In 1757, the institution moved to a different location where it became “The New Lying-In Hospital”. This is the hospital complex that is referred to today as simply “The Rotunda”. The Rotunda Hospital is unique as an institution in that it has continued to provide an unbroken record of service to women and babies since its foundation in 1745 and has occupied its present premises since 1757.

The FSAI today advises that Danone is updating its recent product recall in Ireland to include specific batches of Aptamil and Cow & Gate infant formula and follow-on formula due to the potential presence of cereulide.

The recall has been expanded following the European Food Safety Authority’s publication on Monday of a recommended acute reference dose for cereulide in infant formula. The FSAI is advising parents, guardians and caregivers who may have the recalled products at home not to feed them to their infant or young child. No cases of human illness linked to the affected products have been confirmed to date in Ireland.

We were delighted to host a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) Study Day at The Rotunda Hospital last Friday, bringing together national and international clinicians to share knowledge and collaborate on improving care for babies diagnosed with CDH, a rare and complex condition.

Clinical experts from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Belgium and Australia came together to discuss advances in maternal, fetal and neonatal care, including the potential to offer highly specialised fetal treatments in Ireland. This would allow families to access care closer to home and reduce the significant emotional and practical burden of travelling abroad for procedures such as Fetal Endoscopic Tracheal Occlusion (FETO).

We were honoured to welcome the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, world-leading CDH expert Professor Jan Deprest, Consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist and Fetal Surgeon at University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium, colleagues from Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin and Temple Street Hospitals, the Coombe Hospital and The Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, as well as Ms. Clare Lawlor Lynch.

Cervical cancer is a cancer of the cervix (the neck of the womb) and is most commonly caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which can lead to abnormal cell changes.

You can reduce your risk by getting the HPV vaccine, attending regular cervical screening, following recommended treatment, and getting support to quit smoking.
