As part of LGBT History Month, we’re thrilled to welcome Dr Ger Moane to Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre for Q***ring Prehistory, an evening exploring q***rness, myth, and prehistory. 📚✨

Ger will talk about bringing q***r characters and perspectives into her novel Keeper of Stones, set in ancient Ireland, and will read from the book. Drawing on myth and legend, Keeper of Stones imagines a world that is egalitarian, in harmony with nature, and where gender and sexuality are fluid — offering hope and a different way of being from the world we know today.

The novel follows a group of young people on a coming-of-age journey centred on Newgrange, birthstones, and transformation.

Dr Ger Moane () is a psychologist, writer, and shamanic practitioner, and Keeper of Stones was an Irish Times bestseller.

Today, we launched Pride and Poverty: A Study of the Economic Challenges in the LGBTQ+ Community.

New national research from Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre, alongside EAPN Ireland and TASC, reveals that LGBTQ+ people in Ireland are experiencing enforced deprivation at nearly three times the national rate.

𝟒𝟔.𝟏% 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐆𝐁𝐓𝐐+ 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝟏𝟓.𝟕% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Behind these figures are real experiences: housing insecurity, workplace discrimination, financial stress, and people cutting back on food and heating to get by.

For too long, assumptions about LGBTQ+ economic security have gone unchallenged. This research makes clear that poverty within our community is real, widespread, and patterned, and that it must be recognised in national poverty data and action plans.

If Ireland is serious about tackling inequality, LGBTQ+ people must be visible in that work.

At Outhouse, we're all about celebrating love in all its forms! 💖 This Valentine's Day, let's step away from the common misconceptions and societal pressures often tied to the holiday. Whether you're spending the day with a romantic partner or partners, friends, family, or simply enjoying your own company, your experience is valid and worthy of celebration. 🌈

Here are a few friendly reminders for the day:

✅ Love comes in many forms. Relationships don't have to be romantic to be significant.

✅ Validation goes beyond physical intimacy. S*x doesn't determine the validity of a relationship.

✅ Self-love is important. Remember, you don't need a partner to experience happiness and fulfilment.

✅ Love is love, and inclusion is sexy! Embrace love in all its forms, and remember that acceptance is always attractive.

The National Community Safety Survey is open right now, and it’s a chance to share your experiences of safety, harm, and what you need to feel safer in your community.

Too often, LGBTQ+ experiences don’t show up in the data, and when we’re missing from the data, we’re missing from the decisions that follow.

We’ve added the survey link to our bio. It should only take a few minutes, but it can help shape real change. 🔗
