Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about grand gestures or perfect moments. 💜
In fostering, love often looks more quiet than that.

It’s showing up every morning.
Keeping routines steady.
Being there again tomorrow, even when today was hard.

We are hosting a Care Day event on Friday 20th February to celebrate and support foster families.

The day includes training for foster carers on Behaviour as Communication: Supporting Traumatised Children and Adolescents to Learn to Regulate their own Emotions and Behaviour, facilitated by Christina Enright. EPIC, Empowering People in Care will be joining us to share their work advocating for children and care leavers.

Children’s activities will run throughout the day. For ages 3 to 12 there will be balloon modelling, games and a puppet and magic show. For 12 plus we will have a gaming bus and a cosy movie room.

RSVP is now closed, but if you would like to hear about future events, email info@orchardfostering.ie.

Focus on Foster Care takes place from Monday 2nd to Friday 6th March 2026.

This annual IFCA-led campaign celebrates and recognises the incredible contribution of foster carers, builds public understanding of foster care, and strengthens connection and pride within the foster care community. It also highlights IFCA’s role as the national voice for foster care and the importance of continued support for foster carers and the children they care for.

We encourage everyone to get involved, whether by taking part in events, sharing key messages, amplifying content across your networks, or collaborating on local activities.

More information and ways to participate will be shared soon. .

Every fostering journey starts with one simple moment
The moment someone says yes.

We asked a few of our carers what made them open their home and their heart. Here is what they shared:

“It breaks your heart to see how happy she is.”
“She became part of our lives and we learned so much from her.”
“They are like two of our own children.”

Three different stories but the same feeling.
Fostering changes lives in ways that are hard to put into words.

If you have ever thought about fostering, we would love to chat.

We’re very pleased to share the findings of our November 2025 HIQA inspection, where Orchard Fostering was found to be fully compliant. 💜

The report recognises the high quality of care across our service and our strong commitment to providing a safe, child-centred environment where children’s rights and wellbeing are prioritised.

Inspectors met with foster carers, children and young people, staff and external social workers, who spoke positively about the levels of support, communication and safeguarding in place. Key initiatives such as Young Orchard Voice, our foster carer supports, birth children supports and ongoing training were also highlighted.

This feedback reflects the dedication of our carers, young people and team. We’re proud of the community we’ve built together 👉 www.orchardfostering.ie/about-us/annual-fostering-reports

Happy St Brigid’s Day to all our carers, young people in our care and families across Ireland. 🌿

St Brigid is often associated with renewal, hope and the nurturing of others and themes that sit close to the heart of fostering. Every new beginning, every small moment of care and every bit of encouragement helps a child grow in confidence.

If you’ve been thinking about fostering, we’d love to chat.

Our Book of the Month is Becoming a Foster Carer: A Practical Guide by Helen Oakwater.

It is a gentle, insightful read that offers guidance on understanding trauma, building connection and supporting children as they settle into a new home. Many carers find it reassuring, especially in the early stages of their fostering journey.

If you would like more helpful resources, you can find them on our website.

Our story

Established in 2008, we are the largest Irish-owned independent foster care agency. More than a decade later, we have close to a hundred wonderful foster carer families that provide excellent care for their foster children. Our mission is our dedication and genuine passion for child welfare and supporting carers. We pride ourselves on knowing our carers and recognising the contribution they make towards a lasting difference in the lives of the children in their care. We have a multi-disciplinary team of over 30 staff. Fully qualified and locally-based, our social work, social care and therapy teams are available to support our carers and to ultimately to achieve the best outcomes for the foster children in their care. Importantly our dedicated and experienced staff are available through our out of hours call service, giving our carers the peace of mind that they can access support at any time should the need arise. We’ve been building brighter futures for children and young people for over a decade.
