If your knee hurts when you run, there are two usual suspects — Runner’s Knee and ITB Syndrome.
They get mixed up all the time, but they’re not the same problem.
One feels like a dull ache around the kneecap.
The other shows up as a sharp, stubborn pain on the outside of the knee — often after a certain distance.
Knowing the difference matters.
Because the fix isn’t the same.
Runner’s Knee often comes from overload or weak quads.
ITB Syndrome usually points to hip weakness or a sudden jump in training.
If your pain keeps showing up earlier in your runs, forces you to alter your stride, or stops you from building distance — that’s your sign to get assessed properly.
A clear diagnosis means a clear plan back to pain-free running.
