The NRH Spinal Cord System of Care (SCSC) Team showcased a range of helpful resources at the recent Spinal Injuries Ireland Empowerment Summit. These resources included the ‘Spinal Cord Injury: What you need to know’ series of booklets and videos developed by the SCSC Team. It was a fantastic event organised by SII, and a great opportunity to meet with colleagues and people living with a spinal cord injury.

The NRH resources for people with spinal cord injury are available on our website at https://www.nrh.ie/rehabilitation-services/scsc-programme-patient-education-and-resources/

Brain Awareness Week is a global initiative which seeks to promote greater awareness of the brain and the many conditions that can affect the brain, and to advocate for greater investment in service provision and prevention.

The Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDoC) Study Day, hosted by the NRH, was a great success thanks to the enthusiasm and contributions of everyone involved, including colleagues from hospital and community settings who attended on the day. The event was organised by a team from the NRH Brain Injury Programme and the Academic Department.

The study day aimed to increase knowledge and confidence of clinicians working with patients in PDoC, and to share information about how best to support their families and friends.

The NRH Brain Injury Programme plans to develop an informal national network for services working with Patients in PDoC.

For every road death in Ireland last year, there were almost eight serious injuries, and those injured often face complex recoveries and disabilities that could last a lifetime (RTE News).

Special thanks to James and Yanna who shared their personal stories at the NRH to highlight the vital importance of road safety and promote the prevention of road traffic accidents which can often result in life-changing injuries. Eight percent of admissions to the NRH are as a result of road traffic accidents.
