We are incredibly proud of Eoghan, Sarahjane, Eithne and Kate who took on the Harmonie Mutuelle Semi de Paris yesterday on behalf of Diabetes Ireland 🇫🇷🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Taking on a half marathon is an amazing achievement, and we are so grateful that you chose to do it while supporting Diabetes Ireland. Your dedication, effort and commitment truly mean so much to us and to everyone living with diabetes across Ireland.

Thank you for representing us so proudly, we really appreciate you all. What an incredible accomplishment! 💙👏

🏃‍♀️💙 This Sunday, SarahJane Kirwan will take on the Paris Half Marathon to raise funds for Diabetes Ireland, and her reason for running is deeply personal.

Last May, SarahJane’s cousin Philip sadly passed away due to complications from undiagnosed diabetes. Her sister Becky has also been living with diabetes since she was diagnosed at the age of 17. These experiences are what inspired SarahJane to fundraise for Diabetes Ireland and to help raise awareness of the early signs of diabetes.

After what she describes as the toughest year for her family, signing up for the Paris Half Marathon lit a fire in her belly to get up, get out, and get moving for a purpose that means so much.

Since starting her training in January, SarahJane has been joined on runs by her sister Becky, other family members, and friends. She says this has been the best part of the past eight weeks, spending time together, supporting one another, and finding a reason to get out and move together.

This weekend, SarahJane will run the streets of Paris in memory of Philip and to keep his memory alive.

She also shared how overwhelmed she has been by the generosity of those who have donated so far, saying the kindness and support from others has meant so much.

👏 We are incredibly grateful to SarahJane for supporting Diabetes Ireland and helping raise awareness while taking on this amazing challenge.

🏃‍♂️💙 This Sunday, Eoghan is taking on the Paris Half Marathon in support of Diabetes Ireland and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Having lived with Type 1 diabetes for almost 15 years, Eoghan decided to turn an incredible personal challenge into an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for the diabetes community.

"Diabetes Ireland does wonderful work supporting and advocating for people living with diabetes across the country, I wanted to play my part by fundraising while doing something that means a lot to me."

Just as importantly, Eoghan hopes to shine a light on what living with Type 1 diabetes is really like. Training for an event like a half marathon comes with extra layers of planning and consideration, especially when it comes to managing blood sugar levels.

For years, Eoghan told himself that running a half marathon might be too difficult to manage with diabetes. But now he’s proving to himself and to others living with Type 1, that diabetes does not have to hold you back from achieving incredible things.

The Paris Half Marathon also falls right in the middle of Eoghan’s training for his second full marathon, which he’ll be running in Prague this May. An amazing achievement and an inspiring journey.

👏 We are so thankful for Eoghan’s support and dedication. If you can, please consider supporting his fundraiser and cheering him on!

Meet Tongta 💙

Tongta Rattana McCabe is originally from Thailand and has been living in Ireland for over 21 years. She lives in with her husband from Drogheda and their three children.

This year, Tongta will celebrate her 50th birthday on 29 May. Instead of having a big celebration, she has chosen to take on the Dublin Half Marathon in support of Diabetes Ireland.

Her motivation is personal. Tongta lost her mother to diabetes, her mother-in-law also lives with the condition, and through her work she sees how diabetes affects many people.

For Tongta, this run is her way of marking a special birthday while raising awareness and wishing for better health and wellbeing for everyone. She is excited to take on the challenge and has been training hard to do her very best.

Thank you, Tongta, for turning your milestone birthday into something so meaningful 💙

Meet Craig 💙

Craig decided to run in support of Diabetes Ireland, a charity close to his heart as a parent to a child living with Type 1 diabetes.

Running has been a hobby of Craig’s for many years, and he has previously taken part in marathons and half marathons. He feels privileged and grateful to be part of a team raising vital funds and awareness for Diabetes Ireland while doing something he truly enjoys.

What Craig loves most about running is that it’s a sport for absolutely everyone, but one that will certainly humble you.

Craig’s connection to Diabetes Ireland is through the Donegal Diabetes Branch. His little girl, Hollie, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in December 2024 at just two years old. As a parent, he says he will be forever grateful for the team at LUH, the Donegal Diabetes Branch, and Diabetes Ireland for the incredible support they provide to families like his.

Thankfully, training is going well. Craig follows a structured plan that helps him balance running with a full-time job and busy family life with two young children at home (aged 1 and 3).

His weekly training typically includes:
• 1 interval session
• 1 easy run
• 1 tempo run
• 1 long run

We’re so proud to have Craig as part of the team, raising awareness and vital funds for families impacted by Type 1 diabetes 💙
