The Bungalow is a place where everyone is accepted for who they are rather than what they are-where everyone is made to feel very special Cherry Orchard is a local authority housing estate with 1700 households. In 1990 the first houses were built on a green field site in Cherry Orchard and people were moved from the inner city and housed in Cherry Orchard. People used to the support of close inner city communities found themselves isolated in the new estates, they were housed but had no supporting facilities or amenities. The Bungalow grew out of the need for people to get to know one another and to build friendships and their community. With the support of The Daughters of Charity who had moved into the area and Dublin City Council who provided the small bungalow local mothers came together and began some cookery courses, childminding was available for mothers who wanted to attend classes. From these small beginnings the Bungalow flourished and in 1998 entered the Family Resource Centre programme and became a limited company with a voluntary board of management employing a small team of core staff offering a range of first step education classes. The Bungalow has been at the heart of the Cherry Orchard community and is always ready to respond quickly to local needs. The building has increased in size over the years with the latest extension being completed in 2009. The Bungalow serves the people of Cherry Orchard and surrounding areas and offers a range of first step education courses. Courses offered include:

WORLD AUTISM DAY 🧩 πŸ’™

April 2, 2026 shines a light on autism, celebrating people with different minds and a more inclusive world.

To all the primary caregivers, your dedication and patience do not go unnoticed. Caring for someone with autism can be both rewarding and challenging, and it’s okay to feel overwhelmed at times. Remember to celebrate small victories, seek support when needed, and take care of your own well-being because your strength and consistency make a huge difference in the life of the person you care for. Every effort you make, no matter how small it feels, helps them grow, feel safe, and reach their potential. πŸ«‚πŸ«ΆπŸ’™

Last Friday we celebrated International Women's Day by hosting Ballyfermot Youth Service and their amazing Erasmus group.

After showing them our building and sharing the work we do, the group also took part in a creative workshop, crating an artwork called "Wall of Dolls". Each doll or symbol represented strength, empowerment, growth, courage, resilience and solidarity, with every woman contributing something meaningful to her.

A big thanks to Ballyfermot Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force for funding and supporting this fantastic event.

We were very saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend, Ann Griffiths
Ann came to the Bungalow for many years. She was always a kind and friendly presence, and she was thought very highly of by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She had a great love for ballroom dancing, which brought her so much joy over the years. Many will remember her warm smile, gentle nature, and the happiness she shared with those around her.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this very sad time.

May she rest in peace.
