Krysia Lynch - Dublin Doula

Krysia Lynch - Dublin Doula offers birth mentoring, classes, birth services, and e More information is available on my website.

My name is Krysia Lynch, I am the Chair of AIMS Ireland, and I was the Cooordinator of the Home Birth Association for 10 years. I am a registered homeopath, a breastfeeding counsellor a placenta enccapsulator and I also have a PhD in Science. I have sat on numerous HSE and Department of Health Committees representing women and their familie, most recently the National Maternity Strategy for Ireland (2015) and the National Maternity Standards for Ireland (2016). I also sit on committees in the rotunda and the National Maternity Hospital. I am a freuent conference presenter to both mothering and midwifery conferences and I am also often to be heard on national radio discussing the expereince families have within our maternity services. In a nutshell, I work with mothers fathers and families to ensure that the pre conception, pregnancy and birth of your baby are times when you feel supported, informed and memorable. Each birth heralds not just the birth of a baby but the birth of a mother too, and my role is to nurture the birth of the mother in you. If you are already a mother then this birth offers you an opportunity to evolve into a mother of a growing family; each new child changes us and our family and my role is to help you prepare for that emotionally and physically. I have worked as a doula since 2003 and have experience of working with mums having caesarean births, home births, low tech hospital births, high tech hospital births, inductions and with women expecting twins! As a doula, I serve the three main Dublin maternity hospitals of The Coombe, The NMH and The Rotunda, and have attended many home births too. I am based in Sandymount, Dublin which means all the hospitals are within easy access. I have seen the great benefit that having a doula can offer a mother, especially if she is a first time mother trying to negotiate the maternity services. Research on doulas show that their presence can significantly reduce the incidence of interventions. Mothers who have had difficult experiences in previous births can also especially benefit from the services of a doula. However, I firmly believe that EVERY mother deserves a doula All mothers deserve to have someone there just for them during a birth; someone to nurture, care and support not just with the head but with the heart too! More on the benefits of doulas can be found on my website www, dublindoula, com

As part of my doula service I also offer a photographic story telling of your labour and immediately afterwards and as a homeopath I offer all my clients homeopathic support during pregnancy and labour. Aside for doula work I also offer a placenta encapsulation service.

Doula!

A short sweet labour and in the day time to boot! Must be the energy of the full moon!

Started phone support late in the evening whilst at a concert. Left my home to grapple with the M50 at 1130am the next morning. Arrived at 1215pm baby born at 4.19pm!

A beautiful first time mother waterbirth at home. This mama was originally signed up for private obstetric care . . . But wanted an undisturbed labour with no interventions. We had a conversation at our first meeting as to how maybe she'd signed up for the wrong care pathway! Maybe it was a home birth that would serve her best?

She did her research and switched care model to The National Home Birth Scheme. She got a midwife and by our next antenatal visit she had abandoned the €2K invested in private obstetric care and was now a public patient availing home birth care from her own midwife. Renege it's never to late to swap, you just need to have courage and let go that which doesn't serve you any more.

She quietly made her preparations, and when the time came birthed intuitively from her deep reserve of self knowledge and connection to herself her baby and her ancestors. What a QUEEN! What a birthing goddess!

It was my privilege to also be there to support her and her partner. What a great duo they made!

Lovely 2 work with the lovely Ailis and too

May the goddesses bless them all.

RIP Laura and sincere condolences to her family. Such a difficult thing to face and cope with on a daily basis as a family and the inquest has taken so long to come to the fore.

Good sensitive discussion here by Niamh Griffin of some of the issues associated with avaling home birth care in Ireland and how they applied to Laura.

I was surprised to see that Laura had been approved by an obstetrician for a home birth when so many mothers who have IVF are not. Its hard to marry that with the guidance that so many people who have taken IVF receive: namely that their placentas will not function after 38 weeks and they require medical Indoction of labour.

I am quoted at the end of the article:
'Reacting to the inquest findings, maternity advocate Krysia Lynch recalled how people in the birth community were “shocked and saddened” in the summer of 2022 when Ms Liston died.

“Maternal death is thankfully a rare event in Ireland, but always leaves lessons in its wake. It is vital that the real lessons are learnt here and that this incredibly sad event is not used as a stick to beat an individual or a particular type of birth choice,” she said.

“Women deserve a safe maternity service in which they and their families can place their trust both at home and in hospital and in in-between spaces such as birth centres.”

She added: “They need services where they are at the centre of their care and this means listening to women.”

She expressed her sympathies, and called for transparency around the recommendations."

I wonder what power this inquest will give to the new home birth guidelines. What do you think?

Krysia Lynch, a maternity care advocate, raised concerns for women who have had a caesarean section and need supports in hospital.

“In the run-up to Christmas, our already high caesarean section and induction rates become even higher,” she said.

“The post-natal wards are absolutely packed. That means the ratio of babies and women to midwives is going to be at its poorest, because we have our wards absolutely packed.”

She called for more funding and investment in maternity services, including better access to community care post-natally to reduce these risks for next winter.

“Many women would like to see their mother or their sister or their friend [in hospital], someone who brings a different perspective to them, especially if they’re having their first baby,” she said.

HSE chief clinical officer Dr Colm Henry cautioned cases could rise again as people socialise more over the holiday period

Huge thank you to the Community Midwives Association CMA for the absolutely beautiful flowers you all sent this weekend.

Grief gets harder before it gets easier and midwives would know and recognise that.

I love the flowers. They are just beautiful and genuinely lifting my spirits 🌸💜🌸

I was delighted to be invited to speak about birth trauma in Ireland at the recent La Leche League Training weekend. Birth Trauma affects 18% of birthing people in Ireland each year which is nearly 10,000 people. Some of its primary causes is how people were treated with respect to information given, consent sought and lack of compassionate trauma sensitive language and care . Many more people may not have trauma but difficult and challenging experiences.

Do you have a birth, pregnancy or postpartum experience that feels upsetting or unresolved?

Would you like to receive some support to help you feel more at peace and more resolved about it?

During November/Early December I will be carrying out CPD training as a birth story listener, and will be doing sessions with volunteers on Zoom.

The sessions will be recorded for educational and feedback purposes, allowing me to be evaluated and are free of charge.

You need to have 60-90 minutes of child-free/distraction free time available, and feel ready to feel differently about your story. Ideally your birth experience should be within the last 7 years.

We are not seeking volunteers who just want to share their birth story, you must be motivated to feel differently about your experience.

If you're interested in being a volunteer, please DM or email me at drkrysia@gmail.com

Doula! For the second time in three days with clients that had guess dates a month apart!

Another short sweet labour. Must be the energy of the full moon! This time the call came at midnight, but labour didn't really get started until midday. Labour and birth are great unknowns, so i had to postpone the first day of my doula training course, choosing to do a morning online with the fabulous group of 20 joining me this year as I waited for more news. Very on brand! Everyone got a feel for what it really means to be a doula!

And having gone into DS at 12pm a beautiful baby boy made an appearance to join his beautiful brave mama at 730pm being birthed quite literalky into her arms.

It was my priviledge to also be there to support her and her partner. What a great duo they made!

However, aside from her partner, it was an all women team that supported ny clientl! What a wonderful circle of women we were! Despite having a private male obstetrician, he was unavailable on the day, and the most beautiful and gentlest woman (consultant), took his place! Of course she joined the three gorgeous midwives who also supported my client through labour, birth and the immediate postpartum, each of them bringing something unique that my client needed to the birth; confidence, softness and joy.

May the goddesses bless them all.

If you are interested in my doula trainings or in receiving doula support, see link in bio, DM me or find me here.

Next training is Comprehensive Doula Training 2025 - 6 started yesterday on October 19th 2025. Late registration accepted. More info here: https://www.dublindoula.com/doula-training-course-with-krysia-lynch/

I had a very busy 10 days! On Thursday 9th I went to the latching on morning at Áras an Uachtaráin with five lovely mothers from Aims Ireland and I was delighted to be able to speak on the Topic of Birth Trauma and Breastfeeding. As I am also a member of La leche league of Ireland and Association of Lactation Consultants of Ireland I got included in their photo shoots too! Here are some great shots of the day!

Doula! It' was short intense and sweet. Anyone who wanted a lesson in how to rock physioligical labour after an AROM induction could have learned a lot. No pain meds AT ALL, no SYNT at all, just connection and self belief.

And having gone into DS at 12pm a beautiful baby girl joined planet earth at 5.06pm and a brave courageous empowered woman who knew she could "do it", became a mama for the second time, and it was my priviledge to also be there to support her for the second time. Working with people over several births is the sweetest thing!

It was a particular honour for me, to support someone so determined and powerful who trusted me enough to expose her vulnerability in that almighty rite of passage that is labour and birth.

It was also so inspiring to work along side such lovely midwives in the Coombe, who were not only skilled professionals but whom also advocated for, and supported her in her choices. May the goddesses bless your magic hands Tamara!
