Think of a newborn piglet’s intestine as a blank ecosystem.

In those first hours, what colonises it begins to shape everything that follows.

Microbial balance at this stage is closely associated with how efficiently nutrients are absorbed and how robust the immune response becomes over time.

In practice, this early window often explains differences we only notice weeks later:
👉 Variability within the batch
👉 Uneven growth curves
👉 Animals that struggle to fully recover

The farrowing house, particularly during week one, is where much of this trajectory is set.
