Earlier this year, Bon Secours Hospital Dublin welcomed a 4th-generation da Vinci Xi robot, the new standard in minimally invasive care.
Da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery enables surgeons to perform delicate and complex procedures through small incisions. From the surgeon console, the surgeon controls all movements with enhanced visualisation, dexterity, precision, and ergonomics. The system translates the surgeonโs hand movements in real time, guiding and rotating the instruments as needed to perform the procedure.
Robotic-assisted surgery typically reduces the need for open procedures, improves access and outcomes, and supports quicker recovery with fewer complications, while also boosting the hospitalโs overall efficiency. The first urology procedure was performed in early March by Prof Niall Davis, Consultant Urologist, and in the coming months the program will expand to include gynaecology and general surgery patients.
