GREEN PARTY LOGIC

Last week at the behest of the Green Party.
Bord na Mona ceased production of peat briquettes in Ireland.
This is in line with previous Green Party policies to end the multi generation tradition of turf cutting on bogs all over Ireland.
Some people might see this as a positive development to reduce our carbon footprint emissions, until you realise that Peat and coal briquettes are now being imported into Ireland from Estonia ,Lithuania, Scandinavia and Germany.
How does it make economic or environmental sense to produce them in Northern Europe and transport them all to way Ireland by road and sea.
Its the same principle as reducing the national cattle herd Ireland and importing thousands of tonnes of Brazilian beef all the way to Europe.
Similarly the Irish sugar beet industry was shut down in the 80's on false economic figures and we now import all our sugar.
This is just a sop to the Green Party to give them a "win" they can present to their comfortable middle class base while implementing the neoliberal capitalist policies of FF and FG and their EU masters.
Banning peat briquettes and turf to keep the Green Party on side to pass CETA is a handy trade off trade off for Martin and Varadkar.
As Eamon Ryan once said when he stayed awake long enough.
"Ireland can be an example to the rest of the world "
