We asked Melissa Curtis: How do you help teachers feel confident managing babies in class? 👩‍🍼

"We take the fear out of it by making it practical and realistic with lots of attention grabbers and how to deal with a change in the atmosphere. Although we make sure the parent gets as much out of the class as possible, the babies are always a part of the practice.

I teach teachers how to work with babies, how to read cues, adapt in the moment and create a sequence that allows both mum and baby to be supported with lots of fun too. We also talk honestly about what to expect, such as crying, feeding, sleeping, unpredictability and how to stay grounded through it all.

Confidence comes from understanding, being well-trained, preparation and permission to not have everything perfectly controlled. Yes, this class is very different to any other class you will teach, but the rewards are endless."

We asked Melissa what inspired her to create the Mum & Baby Yoga Teacher Training…

"When myself and Lisa Wilkinson , owner of The elbowroom started the Pregnancy Yoga Training, we realised there was a huge need for a follow-on class. Most women love to continue classes with their Pregnancy Yoga Teacher once baby is born so it seemed like such a natural progression.

There was very little around that also focused on the parent as well as the baby. The only classes available were baby yoga. New mums need to feel held, understood, and safely guided back into their bodies. I came across incredible pregnancy yoga teachers and yoga teachers from our training, who wanted to support this stage of life but didn’t feel equipped, especially when babies were involved. And I saw mums navigating recovery, exhaustion, and identity shifts without enough informed support.

We created this training to bridge that gap, to give teachers the knowledge, confidence, and sensitivity to truly serve women during this rollercoaster, transformative chapter in their lives as well as help them find their tribe and integrate into the community."

If you've ever thought “I’d love to try Reformer but I have no idea what I’m doing” - this workshop is for you.

In this relaxed, small-group session we slow everything down and explain the essentials so you understand how and why things work.

What we cover:

• Pilates fundamentals - breath, core engagement and alignment
• How to safely use the Reformer machine (springs, straps, headrest)
• Key beginner exercises and modifications
• A chance to ask questions in a supportive environment

By the end, you’ll feel comfortable and ready to step into regular Reformer classes.

We’re delighted to welcome women’s physiotherapist and yoga teacher Orla Crosse as a guest speaker for our upcoming Mum & Baby Yoga Teacher Training with Melissa Curtis

Orla will be joining the training for a special online session on Saturday, June 6th (9–11am), bringing her expertise in women’s health, pelvic floor function and postnatal recovery.

Understanding the postnatal body is essential when teaching mums and babies. During this session, Orla will share clear, practical insights to help teachers support mothers safely and confidently after birth. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of topics such as pelvic floor health, common postnatal conditions, and how movement and yoga can support recovery.

This session adds a valuable clinical perspective to the training and is always a highlight for participants.

Our Mum & Baby Yoga Teacher Training takes place:
• 23–24 May 2026
• 4–5 July 2026
with this additional online guest lecture on June 6th.

If you’re interested in supporting mothers during the early months of motherhood, this training offers practical tools, knowledge and confidence to guide your classes.
