This is one of my favourite and fasted ways to reduce the feeling of stress.
I often use it with clients , when I want to bring down their anxiety in the moment. I have always got positive feed back .
I always ask people to rate their feeling on a scale of one to ten and the start and again at the end , I would be surprised if it’s not a difference of at least 3/4 steps .....
5, 4, 3, 2, 1 GROUNDING TECHNIQUE
HOW TO DO IT:
It works by taking you out of your thoughts the constant chatter , and it bringing you into your five senses to help remind you of the present.
Take three deep slow belly breath to begin.
5 - LOOK: Look around for 5 things that you can see, and say them out loud and give a little description. For example, I see the curtain it’s blue and it reaches the floor , I see the lamp, it’s lit and the shade is green
4. LISTEN: Listen for 4 sounds. It could be the sound of traffic outside, the sound of birds or a dog barking . Say the four things out loud.
3- FEEL: Touch 3 things and say how they feel out loud. For example, I feel the pillow It’s soft , I feel the table it’s hard and cold
2 - SMELL: Say two things you can smell. It may be your body spray, a flower, etc
1 - TASTE: Say one thing you can taste. Tiny taste of something from a drink to your tooth paste but just notice how it tasted , minty or sweet etc .
Take two deep breaths
