On Wednesday 04.11.2020, we started our celebrations for the Clevis’ 40th birthday, we started with a new venture, an online tea dance organised by the national concert hall via a zoom call with over 20 other groups and individuals throughout Ireland - though slow to grasp the concept of zoom calls, and little patience first thing in the morning, the fun began - we even participated and sang for all the groups with our own wonderful rendition of Que Sera Sera and everyone wished us a happy birthday.

This was followed by our celebration lunch with fancy tables, napkins, flowers and jazz music playing in the background. Wine was served on a weekday too! The catering team provided a delicious cake for our birthday and everyone joined in to sing happy birthday, (twice!) our eldest and longest resident, Gladys had the honour of blowing out the candles! ( candles were on her slice of cake only due to COVID!) Betty presented us with a magnificent art piece, commemorating the Clevis, Life and Remembrance. She also recited a wonderful poem which she wrote.

The highlight of the day was our surprise guest at the Clevis melodies group in the afternoon. Jean, who has been on leave and the longest employed in the Clevis, joined us for an hour via zoom on the new smart TV! Everyone was delighted to see her, like a true family reunion! Even those who don’t join in the groups came to the dining room to say hello to her! Staff member Michelle was simply brilliant with her singing and inclusion of all the requests. Herself and Ipe even gave us a demonstration of the Cha Cha! By 4pm, we were all exhausted!

On Thursday 05/11/2020 we had afternoon tea and took the time to remember all our friends who once called the Clevis home. To close our celebrations, on Friday afternoon, we announced the winners of our competition - what the Clevis means to you.

None of this would have been possible without the great teamwork of all involved, the Clevis team have been so dedicated and also proud.

On Friday 3rd July we commenced a four week programme of staff swabbing for the detection of Covid 19. Unlike previous swabbing clinics facilitated by the national ambulance service this time our swabs are being taken by a team of specially trained LPH nurses . We have had a fantastic turnout at our two clinics to date and hope to continue this trend. Our staff are doing their best to keep our Covid free status, the protection of all residents is at the forefront of their minds.

Our cocooning residents have been busy taking advantage of the recent spell of fine weather. Lots of planting and painting happening. We are very fortunate to have such a beautiful outdoor space for our residents to safely exercise while they cocoon.

Re: Covid-19 Update

We would like to advise you of the current position in Leopardstown Park Hospital regarding Covid 19 since our last communication with you.

We wish to advise you that we have commenced the process of developing firm plans to facilitate visitation and admissions at the hospital. In doing so, we must ensure that our plans deal with a number of complex issues and this will take us a little time to finalise. Therefore, it will not be in place by 15th June.

The protection of all residents and staff is at forefront of our minds. We are currently Covid 19 free we want to do all we can to protect that status. Once we have established robust safe operating procedures we will then seek to obtain approval from the Hospital Board.

Please be aware that the visiting process will be tightly regulated and the nominated person for the resident will be contacted in due course and allocated a specific time by the hospital.

In line with HSE HPSC guidelines, visits will be for specific time slots and for a specific duration. Unplanned visits will not be facilitated and Visitors will be fully briefed on the protocols to be followed prior to their visit.

At this time, visitors are still prohibited from visiting the hospital grounds in the interest of resident safety.

We will update you as soon as the arrangements are finalised.

I wish to remind you that technological solutions continue to be available, you may contact residents by phone, Zoom and skype. You are also welcome to drop off gifts or other items to the reception area and we will ensure that these are delivered promptly to your loved one.

Thanking you for your patience and understanding and we are most grateful for your continued support.

We wish to advise that visiting restrictions remain in place throughout LPH. Visiting is not permitted in any part of the hospital including the grounds. Our residents and those with pre-existing medical conditions are particularly vulnerable at this time and continue to cocoon as recommended by the Department of Health and HSE. Residents have access to facetime apps and assisted technology to maintain contact with family, friends and the community. We appreciate the kindness, understanding and patience that has been shown over the past number of weeks and look forward to seeing you all in the not too distant future.

On Monday morning our hard working colleagues in the National Ambulance service were on site in LPH as part of the national health strategy to swab all nursing home staff for C19. We had a fantastic turn out and a total of 186 staff participated in swabbing on the day. A huge thankyou to our off duty staff who came in,especially on a bank holiday. The beautiful weather helped lighten spirits while waiting.

We are always looking for ways to enhance the lives of our residents, especially in these difficult times. Our hospital Board were delighted to support our OT Manager Mary O'Toole with her proposal to replace all hospital TV's and CD players with voice activated smart systems. This will increase our residents independence, reduce cross infection by reducing the use of remotes and give access to local streamed services, concerts and exercise groups. WELL DONE to all involved
