October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast Cancer is one of the most common cancers for women in Ireland. 1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
There are risk factors we cannot change such as family history and genetic and there are risk factors for breast cancer that we can change such as alcohol consumption, physical activity levels and breastfeeding.
Being breast aware is important. Check your breasts regularly. Know what is normal for you and know what changes to look out for. Look for any new lump or swelling in your breast or armpit. Any change is the shape, size or feel of one or both breasts, any skin changes such as puckering or dimpling. Any redness or abscess. Any changes to the ni**le, any discharge from the ni**le or a rash or eczema on or around ni**le.

Healthy County Galway and the IFA hosted a successful Women in Agriculture event at Mountbellew Agricultural College, drawing strong attendance and interest. As part of the Taking Stock programme, the event highlighted the importance of women’s health in rural communities. Attendees benefited from health checks by Croí and foot screenings by Foot Health Galway, alongside expert talks on cardiovascular health, cancer awareness, mental wellbeing, and farm safety. A panel discussion and information stands from Teagasc, GRD Leader, the Irish Cancer Society, and others made the day both informative and empowering.

D’óstáil Healthy County Galway agus an IFA ócáid rathúil do Mhná san Talmhaíocht in Coláiste Talmhaíochta Bhéal Átha na gCarr, le freastal láidir agus spéis mhór ó rannpháirtithe. Mar chuid den chlár Taking Stock, leag an ócáid béim ar thábhacht sláinte na mban i bpobail tuaithe. Fuair freastalaithe seiceáil sláinte ó Croí agus scagthástáil coise ó Foot Health Galway, chomh maith le cainteanna ó shaineolaithe ar shláinte chardashoithíoch, feasacht ar ailse, folláine mheabhrach, agus sábháilteacht feirme. Chríochnaigh an lá le plé painéil agus bhí seastáin eolais ar fáil ó Teagasc, GRD Leader, Cumann Ailse na hÉireann, agus eagraíochtaí eile, rud a d’fhág gur ócáid eolasach agus spreagúil a bhí ann.
