Very few of us have not been affected by su***de and we all understand the devastating grief it causes the loved ones who are left behind.

September is su***de prevention month.

If you are concerned about a friend or a loved one, knowing the signs might help you reach out and ask the question directly β€œare you having suicidal thoughts?”

If they answer yes then you will be able to assist them in seeking help.

The signs are as follows:

* Talking about wanting to die or kill themselves,
* Feeling hopeless or having no reason to live, * *. Feeling trapped or in unbearable pain, or being a burden to others.
*. Beginning or increasing the use of alcohol or drugs.
*. Behaving recklessly.
*. Acting anxious or distressed.
*. Sleeping too little or sleeping too much.
*. Exhibiting extreme mood swings.

In honor of "National Grief Awareness Day," Lisa Marie Presley penned an emotional essay about what she's learned since her son's death by su***de in 2020 at age 27

25/07/2022

'When our grief cannot be spoken, it falls into the shadow and arises as symptoms. So many of us are depressed, anxious, and lonely. We struggle with addictions and find ourselves moving at a breathless pace, trying to keep up with the machinery of culture.

Grief is subversive, undermining the quiet agreement to behave and be in control of our emotions. It is an act of protest that declares our refusal to live numb and small. There is something feral about grief, something essentially outside the ordained and sanctioned behaviors of our culture. Because of that, grief is necessary to the vitality of the soul. Contrary to our fears, grief is suffused with life-force.... It is not a state of deadness or emotional flatness. Grief is alive, wild, untamed and cannot be domesticated. It resists the demands to remain passive and still. We move in jangled, unsettled, and riotous ways when grief takes hold of us. It is truly an emotion that rises from the soul'

if you want to live an authentic, meaningful life, you need to master the art of disappointing and upsetting others, hurting feelings, and living with the reality that some people just won’t like you. It may not be easy, but it’s essential if you want your life to reflect your deepest desires, values, and needs.

Sometimes it can be hard to breathe deeply when we are very anxious. Rhythm can help. Tap your feet on the ground or tap your hands on your legs, or both. Using the butterfly hug can also be self-soothing.
If you can manage a deep breath, remember to bring the breath right down to your tummy. Your tummy should expand on the in-breath and contract on the out-breath. Try and make the breath as long as possible and hold the breath for a few seconds on the inhale and on the exhale. You can either practice this for 10 minutes a day, or if this is too much, take one breath every half hour or every time your phone gets a message, or you can find your own way. Practice your deep breathing during times when you are not feeling anxious. This will help it come easier to you when you are feeling anxious.
