Me, age 6.

Two summer’s ago in Michigan I found myself going through my old things in mom’s attic.

Welp, found my first “grnl” - for anyone who doesn’t read age 6, that’s “journal.”

At that age we’re really concerned with how old we are, how big we’re getting, how much we know about the world and what we’re gonna do when we’re 7.

“When I am 7 I am glad I have this grnl so I can rit things abowt my self. When I am big and when I am little. I can still rit abowt myself.”

Our very first Red Tent Galway is rescheduled for April 23rd's New Moon, given group gatherings are appropriate at that time. And Moon Circle Yoga is continuing her slumber until further notice.

From yesterday’s Archetype Art Class with 💎

Won’t get to art journal with ye this week at our New Moon Practice (obviously cuz it’s cancelled 😆) but love the idea of still creating with you all in the digital cosmos.
Last night we were prompted to draw the feeling of isolation/tension/separation (pic 1) then, after a meditation embodying a feeling of embrace, we were prompted to draw the feeling that came up (pic 2)
You create each drawing in about 1 minute - just letting go to see what the pens and colours wanna say.
By the way, Kim is the artist and creator of the - the Animal Spirit Deck that I bring to class sometimes✨

YOU have been a part of the magic.

Whether your big beautiful eyes are sweeping across these words or whether your moveable magnificent bones have made shapes on a yoga mat with me this year...
Words are only going to attempt to share how Grateful I am to know you and serve you.

🔥This was the year the sticks made a spark and that spark caught flame.

When I created Moon Circle Yoga, which is a cyclical asana practice that incorporates journalling and ritual, using what I like to call the - things. lit. UP.

YOU created a response that was surreal, moving & collectively supportive - connected, deep, holistic and, yeah, a bit wild at times.

You gave me an opportunity to facilitate a niche type of yoga practice which embodies the creative aspects of my own yogic practice, so Thank You for joining me in the Forest and walking the Mystery trail 🤘🏼

You sang like birds across town and sent your friends & roommates; brought your mothers, brothers & travel partners.
Many of you started a regular weekly practice and showed up month on end, rain or shine.
And DAYUM we have some writers in the room.

You made your Voice heard!
Messages, reviews, happenstance meetings...
✨You told me what worked for you and what you needed - & I ask for your continuing guidance in this as it provides me with insight to grow and tailor this practice to continually support your needs✨

S🌕, on with it...
I’m not here to wish you only Love & Light in this New Year - because the ones who really “show up to do the inner work” know that Life isn’t that one-sided, and if we’re really to come out prevailing, we need the TOOLS to accept both sides of Life.

So, as we walk the Forest, I wish you the Will to light your own torch, the Strength to hold it up high and the Bravery to keep marching.

As a wise one once said:
“keep her lit”
So here’s a candle and beloved Ganesh as my final wish for you: that you walk your path with an eternal burning Fire and the Destroyer of Obstacles by your side.

And as part of our Journalling portion of class we will be making a Winter Wheel to help you balance creativity, routine, rest and action during this season.

BASIC benefits:
〰️Improves mobility and motility of the organs
〰️Builds heat in the body
〰️Releases tension
〰️Stimulates circulation
〰️Strengthens spine, keeps vertebrae supple, lengthens connective tissues
〰️Increases the mobility of abdomen and rib cage by softening the fascia

more BADASS benefits:
〰️Twists stimulate vagus nerve fibers in torso and neck (cranial nerves that calm the visceral organs) providing that “ahhh” feeling
〰️Said to stir the Kundalini energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine (don’t even get me started that’s a whole nother post)
〰️Neutralizes backbends and forward bends and play an essential part of practice; even with osteoporosis, mild scoliosis, old age, recovering injury... many teachers (including myself) believe smart and gentle twists are essential for healing and full body recovery
〰️Perhaps my own hot take, but I believe twists help to balance left/right brain qualities, perhaps our inner masc/fem. .

💡If someone tries to buzzword you to say twists “detox” the spine just say “LAWL k thanks but my big beautiful magnificent body already does that on its own and that’s kind of a cellular thing not like a thing that I do once a week on the floor in a detox yoga class ok thx byyyyyye” (in your head) and then actually say “nice wan”

In Moon Circle Yoga it is very much about building a regular sacred ✨p r a c t i c e✨
Every week a combination of yoga asana, journalling, ritual and astrology work in harmony with the given lunar phase to build a relationship with Showing Up to a personal ritual, and through regular practice, building energy within the body & power on your path.

A Full Moon is the climax of a lunar phase. It is where we experience the culmination of everything we’ve got.
Themes are:
〰️wholeness〰️
〰️release/radiate〰️
〰️illumination〰️
〰️celebration〰️
〰️wolfskin〰️

On a collective level, Hatha yoga is what works well with the very full-on energy of the Full Moon〰️
🌞 Ha - “sun”
🌝 Tha - “moon”..this fundamental basis of yoga builds heat in a passive way. Depending on the % of illumination of the moon on the given night, we may pepper in more or less vinyasa sequencing.

🌀R I T U A L
On our Full and New Moons, we practice with an Altar🕯
Bring your special pieces or crystals to charge beside it during class or take a special moment to visit it and gaze at the moon, out across the river, over the windowsill in which it sits.
Mama Moon works with the element of Water. And sometimes, our Full Moon rituals do too 🌊
Other times our ritual may be through our writing tasks or influenced by what sign the Moon is transitioning through in the given month.

✍🏼J O U R N A L L I N G
Journalling is always a mix between stream-of-conscious writing and task work, with the exception of a New Moon Practice where we channel the inner artist and break out the art supplies for Art Journalling.
Writing prompts are provided to aid through your process and give support in organizing the head, unleashing the heart and “training the brain.” Writing is certainly used as a tool and friend which meets the cracks and crevices of the subconscious💭
