Helen really wanted to celebrate when she was 40 years in business but a certain virus got in the way. So we have decided to celebrate 45 years because why the hell not!

Helen opened in January 1981 in the cathedral buildings and has been on Middle St ever since. We are very proud to still be a family run, independent business and hope this continues for the next 45 years!

There have been a lot of changes on the street and in optometry over the years but one thing that is a constant is you our wonderful customers! So we are planning a little party in the shop on Saturday the 17th of January and we would love to see as many of you as possible to celebrate.

On the day we will be having a raffle in aid of the Galway Hospice in memory of Helen’s husband and fellow company director Patrick Keating who is missed every day. Tickets are on sale now! We have lots of brilliant prizes! Tickets available in the shop so pop in any time!

Remembering my brother Clem this week. I have great memories of growing up with him in Esker. He gave me great support and encouragement when I set up the practice back in 1981. He will be greatly missed by our family. The staff and I will miss his regular visits into the shop when he was in town. 💔 Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Helen.

It is with great sadness that we inform of the passing of Clem Walsh.

Clem was one of the founding members of Walsh Waste over 50 years ago. He was a great businessman and visionary for the waste industry. Always looking for new ideas and ways to improve, he was never afraid to invest in something that would grow the business, often adopting the newest innovations to the waste industry.

Clem was Managing Director of Walsh Waste until he retired from the business in 2007, his foresight & vision set us on the path to where we are today.

Clem became an active member and fundraiser of the Galway Parkinsons Association, an illness he himself bore with bravery and dignity for over 22 years.

Our thoughts are with his wife Mary, children Thomas & Miriam and their families. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends and all who knew him, may he rest in peace.
