Studies show that a loving hug or cuddle can have powerful emotional and physical benefits. Gentle, caring touch supports mood, reduces stress, and helps the body shift into a calmer state.

Emotional Well-Being
Hugging triggers the release of oxytocin often called the “bonding hormone” which promotes feelings of trust, safety, and connection. It also boosts serotonin and dopamine, two neurotransmitters linked to improved mood and emotional balance. At the same time, physical touch helps lower cortisol, the body’s main stress hormone, encouraging a sense of peace and relaxation.

Nervous System Support
Hugs activate the parasympathetic nervous system, helping slow the heart rate, ease muscle tension, and promote a “rest and restore” state. This soothing response plays a meaningful role in easing feelings of anxiety and emotional overwhelm.

Immune Support
Because stress can weaken the immune system, reducing cortisol through positive touch may help the body stay more resilient. Some studies even suggest that people who receive regular social support including hugs tend to experience fewer or milder cold symptoms when exposed to common viruses.

A simple hug may seem small, but its impact on connection, comfort, and well-being is surprisingly powerful.

✨ Your Nervous System Is Your Power Source ✨

We often talk about self-care, but one of the most important systems to care for is the one running the entire show: your nervous system.

When it’s supported, you feel:
🌿 Calmer
🌿 Clearer
🌿 More grounded
🌿 More resilient

When it’s overwhelmed, you may notice:
⚡ Anxiety or worry
⚡ Low energy or burnout
⚡ Trouble sleeping
⚡ Feeling “on edge” or easily overstimulated

The good news? Your nervous system responds to daily care.
Try adding small, nourishing practices like:
✨ Slow, deep breathing
✨ Gentle movement
✨ Mindful breaks
✨ Massage or reflexology
✨ Quality rest
✨ Time in nature

Your body is always communicating with you—listen, nurture, and slow down when you can.
Your nervous system isn’t a luxury to care for… it’s essential. 💛

Such an amazing circle of people gathered and held space for each other at this wonderful event.

A big thanks to SP Caroline Barrett for all her hard work and thoughtful insight into supporting the community with wee goodie bags to take their learning forward - and Downstrands Family Resource Centre for the invaluable services they provide in the area. We are very blessed to have this resource on our doorstep.

The evening covered an introduction to the complex combination of brain chemistry, nervous system processes and environmental factors we all face in this ever changing world we find ourselves navigating.

We looked at strategies to manage these issues we are faced with in every day life lincluding diaphragmatic breath work, meditation, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Journalling, Faith, Chanting/Mantras and connection.

Grateful and humbled to be facilitating this type of work from a personal and professional perspective.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like further information on an individual basis or if you would like to share this workshop with a group who are ready to move forward. I hold space for participants to understanding themselves in a supportive, safe and relaxed setting.
