Mindful Create workshops are facilitated by Irish Artist / Educator & Mindfulness Instructor Una Keeley. Una has designed educational programmes for arts organisations and institutions for over 25 years, including 15 years for the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Her background includes an Honours Degree in ceramics and a Masters in Art Education. She has been using mindfulness practices in her workshops for over 15 years. Una has a Diploma in Mindfulness & Well-being and is currently studying MBSR Mindfulness Instructor Training with the Institute for Mindfulness Based Approaches, IMA Germany. Una has been practicing meditation for 25 years and Adheres to The Irish Good Practice Guidelines for Teaching Mindfulness-Based Courses. One of the most difficult parts of meditation practice is allowing ourselves to turn up. The "Thinking Mind" resists turning up, because it knows it will no longer be in the driving seat, once we begin to meditate. So it tells the proud STORY of meditating, but resists allowing the body to actually sit, steady, stabilise, and begin to practice.

If you call yourself a meditator, but secretly know you don't turn up that often, then practice Non-judgement, acknowledge the resistance and practice "Turning Towards" your meditation chair.

Literally "Turn Towards" the room you intend to meditate in, stop and breathe, then begin to walk slowly towards the room, stop and breath ... today you may land on the chair or maybe it will be tomorrow but know you have Already begun meditating by "Turning towards and breathing."

The capacity to "Be with" & "Stay with" an experience, is developed through practice.
Most experiences, trigger some reaction in us, where we want to move on, turn away, or distract our selves (our attention).
Every experience stimulates, Thinking, Sensations & Emotions. Each of these phenomena, has the ability to capture our attention and hold it, till our attention becomes totally absorbed by it. Our attention then becomes unavailable, and no longer free, to fully witness what is happening, in the next moment.( or put it another way ... within the dynamic ever changing present moment).

The practice of Mindfulness, helps us build the inner capacity to witness what is happening, and "Be with" the changing qualities of both inner and outer experience.

Without Mindful Awareness...the tendency to become absorbed in tunnel vision & narrow takes, on what is happening, is very high. (I.E. When strong sensations, emotions, thoughts are stimulated, dictating the "absolute indisputable take" on what is happening)

The practice of Mindfulness, builds our ability to anchor attention to the ever flowing present moment. This widens our perspective and increases our awareness of what is happening. We become aware of information, which we were previously blind to (when tunnel visioned).

We gain the capacity to literally SEE New perspectives.... and RESPOND with greater CLARITY.

A Training Programme for Youth-workers & School Teachers

THIS IS AN ONSITE COURSE
The Sanctuary is now offering a training course for those who work with young people to enable them to deliver our Mindful Warrior Programme in their own school or centre.

WHAT IS THE MINDFUL WARRIOR?
The Warrior Programme is a teacher trainer programme that draws on the various traditions of culture and the arts, helping young people to end up as gentle warriors. It is built around an initiation framework linked to adolescent psychological development that includes:
Mindfulness and movement practices
Insights from psychology of adolescent development
Ways to experience moments of reflective stillness
Traditional wisdom embodied in the ‘gentle warrior’ figure
Use of creative imagination

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Inclusion of the Mindful Warrior Programme in the classroom helps to transform young people’s behaviour and helps them to develop self-awareness and the resilience needed to deal with challenges and disappointments in life.

WHO IS THE MINDFUL WARRIOR PROGRAMME FOR?
It best serves the needs of a cohort of young people who require an alternative, experiential-led approach to their development and is particularly suited to young people from 6th class to 2nd year, who are finding the journey to maturity and social integration challenging.

WILL I GET RESOURCES I CAN USE IN THE CLASSROOM?
Yes, you will be supplied with handouts and lesson plans, we also offer follow up reconnection days so that we can help you continue your practise.

ARE THERE PREREQUISITES TO JOIN THIS COURSE?
Applicants to the facilitator training course should have undertaken some prior mindfulness training and have established a regular mindfulness practice.

PREREQUISITES TO THE COURSE INCLUDE:
Ideally, applicants should have completed an 8-week mindfulness course such as MBSR / MBCT / MBLC / MBCL / Breathworks / .b Foundations or the Art of Stillness in the Classroom, with at least 6 months of a minimum of 20 minutes of mindfulness practice per day (such as sitting or body scan practices).Exceptions to the qualification prerequisites outlined above may be made for applicants who have a long-standing mindfulness practice in other contexts (eg. Vipassana / Shamatha / Insight Meditation or WCCM / Centering Prayer)
