It’s my job as a therapist to give clients the tools that will help them when they are feeling stressed, anxious or experiencing mental health issues that arise from difficult situations. Little did I know when writing this post in May 24 that I would be needing those tools when my husband died suddenly in September 24. I’ve always been an advocate of practice what you preach and I can honestly say that they have helped me navigate this journey and keep me motivated and focused and also healthy. It hasn’t been easy, and unfortunately somethings in our lifetime aren’t but having these tools have certainly helped me and can help you too.

The one thing that is certain, is throughout our lives we are going to go through difficult situations that we have to navigate through.

What’s not certain, is how we cope during these times.

Many times we hear people say “ stay positive “
“ it will get better “ “ look on the bright side “ or people stay away because they don’t know what to say!

But it’s not easy to be positive or look on the bright side and it’s not easy to see that it will get better.

One thing that helps my clients is learning to take control of thoughts and feelings and to let go of trying to control things that are outside of their control. We can’t control what happens to others or situations that suddenly happen but you can control how you react to them.

It’s been a while since I posted and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for supporting me while I took time out to grieve my husband, it’s been quite a rollercoaster of emotions and frustrations along this journey that was thrust upon me but I’ve learnt new skills and found inner strength that has helped me get through the most challenging and difficult times.

Grief is a very personal thing and everyone will have their own story to tell , it will also depend on your relationship with that person and also the communication you had with them.

One thing I’ve learnt is you soon find out who is really there for you, words are one thing but actions speak louder and I can’t thank those people enough for being there, you all know who you are .

People are afraid of talking about death but it’s important that you do, let your loved know what you want when you die, make a will, it makes a huge difference to your loved ones life when your gone and actually saves you money .

If you’re grieving, it’s normal to go through so many different emotions , to feel lost and alone, to feel helpless, and so much more.

Reach out to your loved one’s for support and don’t be afraid to ask for help, one step at a time, one day at a time, it’s not an easy journey and if anyone needs help please reach out .

I’ve pushed myself to exercise, to meditate, to go for walks in nature, to paint, to do things that have helped me get through the darkest of days and I’ve learnt that I’m far more capable than I gave myself credit for and I know that Martin would be so proud of me .

We are living in a forever changing world and while I believe change is good because it challenges and motivates us to learn new things, it also encourages us to be more materialistic, to spend hours on social media and technology and that is detrimental to our physical and emotional health.

It’s important for our mental health to interact with others, to feel connected, have a sense of belonging with family, friends or community, to feel comfortable with ourselves and our achievements, with people who encourage and support each other through all ups and downs in life .

Sleep is vitally important to rest both body and mind so you feel refreshed and relaxed throughout your day and especially for children.

Children are experiencing increased stress and anxiety which manifests in temper tantrums which we normally see in very young children who can’t express themselves. These symptoms are now common and parents are alarmed at the behaviour of children when they are older and in some cases hurting themselves and their parents. If left unchallenged, these young people grow into adults who do not know how to express themselves and behave like a toddler when they don’t get their own way and that is not a pretty sight.

Many children are not getting enough sleep and are spending more time on social media, and many are struggling to socialise in a healthy manner with family and friends.

I’ve seen so many children who are stressed and frustrated and feel under immense pressure at this moment in time and I do believe that social media had a huge part to play in this.

So while technology is good, it’s detrimental to our health too.

In times of stress , anxiety, fear of the unknown, mental health problems, it helps enormously if you have the resources and tools to manage those symptoms, not just adults but children too

Help is available to give you those resources and support in times of need and challenges.

We can’t control outcomes but we can learn to control ourselves and emotions when times are tough.

With my knowledge and experience, getting the best possible outcome for clients in a quick and effective timescale that enables them to make the best choices for them , using the skills and tools available to them, which they take into their lives and use whenever necessary.
