Did you know that the CTG (cardiotocography) monitor you see in labour isn’t always as straightforward as it seems?

CTG monitors track your baby’s heartbeat and your contractions—but they’re not always straightforward. False positives are common, and sometimes they lead to interventions that aren’t strictly necessary.

In my latest blog, I break down:

đź’› What a CTG actually does
đź’› How reliable it really is
đź’› When continuous monitoring is needed and when intermittent checking may be enough
đź’› How you can stay informed and empowered during labour

Your birth, your choices, your voice!

Being part of someone’s birth journey is always special, but this one really touched me. After a difficult first birth, seeing her trust her body again and feel empowered was incredibly moving. I loved being able to support both parents, helping them feel prepared and confident together.

Moments like these are why I do what I do. Witnessing strength, connection, and joy in the birth room is such a gift, and knowing I helped create a positive, empowering experience for both parents is truly what makes my heart full.

Newborns don’t come with an off switch, and sleepless nights are one of the hardest parts of early parenthood. But here’s the thing: it’s not just about “toughing it out”. There are real, evidence-based ways to cope, protect your wellbeing, and find rest even in the blur of those first weeks.

In my latest blog, I share:

💛 Why babies wake so often (and why that’s actually a good thing)
đź’› How sleep deprivation really affects parents (science + real talk)
đź’› Practical strategies to make nights easier
đź’› The role of support systems, including how night doulas can help

Your sleep matters. Your wellbeing matters. And there are ways to get through this with more balance.

Just a few days ago, I had the absolute honour of witnessing the most beautiful and calm birth. ✨

This incredible woman brought her baby girl into the world with such strength, bravery, and trust in herself. After a very difficult and traumatic first birth, this time was all about taking her power back. And that’s exactly what she did. Fully in tune with her body, her mind, and her baby every step of the way.

When her waters broke at 2am, she stayed calm, called me, took a shower, and got as much rest as possible. By the time I arrived a couple of hours later, she was centred, ready to let labour progress gently. Even the soft Irish rain couldn’t stop her. So, with an umbrella in hand, we walked up and down the road together, sharing chats, laughs, and deep grounding breaths. Back at home, she climbed stairs to give her pelvis a good stretch, rested, stayed hydrated, and kept her energy up with little bites to eat.

When it was time to go to the hospital, she grabbed her comb and TENS machine and calmly prepared for the one-hour journey. From the moment we walked through the hospital doors, it was just over an hour before their beautiful daughter was born. An extraordinary reminder of what’s possible when women are listened to, supported, and able to follow their instincts.

Her partner was her anchor. He was right there, holding space, reminding her to breathe calmly, encouraging her with such tenderness and asking thoughtful questions so they could make decisions together. His steady presence made all the difference.

It was such an honour to witness this beautiful, empowering journey. From trauma to trust, from fear to courage. What a start to life for their little fighter. 🥰

Huge congratulations to this wonderful couple on the birth of their baby girl. She couldn’t have asked for a more loving welcome into the world. 💕

If you’re expecting and wondering what doula support could look like for you, I’d love to chat. Every birth is unique, and you deserve to feel supported, safe, and connected in your own journey.

đź’› Tips to feel empowered and supported, no matter your choice
