We are so excited to announce that our chosen physiotherapist, Caroline Syrett has moved onto the premises. You will now find her at 62 Shannon road🤗.
As many of you know, I am very picky about who I work with purely because I want the absolute best for our clients... I am happy to say that we at Donna’s, have worked very closely with Caroline for many, many years and she has done absolute wonders for our clients and their needs. We are super blessed to officially welcome her on board.

P.S. You don't need to be a Donna's client to visit Caroline's practice. All are welcome!

Have a look at what she has to offer...👏

Caroline obtained her Physiotherapy Honours Degree with distinction from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2003 and initially worked in private practice at Wilgeheuwel hospital. She gained extensive experience in treating back and neck conditions, shoulder dysfunction, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal and post-surgical rehabilitation. Caroline also worked as the Physio to the South African squash team during that time. In 2007 she opened her own practice in Kenmare and in 2016 expanded the practice to her home in Randpark Ridge.

Caroline’s key areas of practice are musculoskeletal rehabilitation, postural re-education, bio mechanical assessment and management, sport injuries and chronic pain management. She has a passion for the young athlete and believes that bio mechanical assessment and management at an early age is extremely important.

After seeing a need for the correction of lower limb biomechanics in many individuals, she attained a qualification in the fitment of orthotics. Another modality that Caroline finds very beneficial is Kinesio taping, which goes a long way to facilitating and maintaining various bio mechanical and postural adjustments. She also offers Pilates-based exercise classes for small groups in Krugersdorp and Weltereden Park.

She favors a hands on approach comprising of manual therapy techniques and believe strongly in the prescription of home exercises as an adjunct to treatment.

Initial appointments are an hour long with follow up sessions 45 minutes in duration. Fees are charged at medical aid rates and accounts can be submitted directly to all major medical schemes.

This weekend Neil and I took our girls and their bikes to Emmerentia dam. They rode while we jogged alongside them and it was an excellent start to our Saturday. It was great family time and great exercise. I urge you to find a form of exercise that is fun, makes you feel good and that doesn’t seem like a chore. Read this post for some more inspiration.

If you knew your predisposition to common diseases today, would you change your lifestyle to ensure your health and wellbeing tomorrow?

For many years I have been concerned about my risk of developing breast cancer. This stems from my mother’s diagnosis of breast cancer over 10 years ago. As a result of my mother’s history I have been advised to be vigilant regarding breast exams and annual check ups. I eat well and I exercise but surely there is a lot more that I could be doing too?

During the course of this year I was introduced to a new concept in healthcare, genetic testing. The technology involved in genetic testing has now been developed to the point where it can be made available to the public. This is in the form of SNP genotyping. SNP stands for single nucleotide polymorphisms. These are the DNA sequence variations that make you different from everyone else you know. Once you have a breakdown of your SNPs, a trained technician can interpret the data to tell you which diseases you are likely to get.

Although we cannot change our genes, we can control their expression, which is strongly influenced by our environment. Therefore by making minor adjustments to your lifestyle now, you will be able to lower the risk of certain diseases and live healthier.

If you would like to find out more, please do contact me.

With a DNA test specifically designed for athletes you can discover your athletic potential and realise the ultimate training regime using your genetic results. DNA test results for runners and other athletes can determine numerous genetic predispositions and potential strengths which can be used to...

Despite the recent cold snaps, many of us are starting to feel optimistic that Spring is here. This optimism brings with it a little extra motivation to get active.
The onset of Spring coincides with National Physiotherapy Back Week which is celebrated during the second week of September each year AND International Physiotherapy Day which is celebrated on the 8th of September. This presents a great opportunity for physiotherapists to promote healthy living and educate the public on how to prevent and manage neck and back injuries.
A physiotherapist is a great place to start if you feel that you might like some assistance with pain management, exercise prescription, injury prevention and improving your quality of life. Take a pause during your work day to stretch tight muscles and move away from sustained postures. Your body will thank you for it. Here are three of my favourite pause exercises.
